I have been all over this great country in every 48 states. I traveled as a sports fan, tourist, outdoor activist and now as a profession in the trucking industry. Over the past 20 years, I have seen this land go thru a massive divorce surge, a new epidemic called Sexual Harassment and so on. In addition, I have seen some of the worst women you can imagine. The street strollers found in the inner cities are really bad: strung out on drugs, no hygiene at all and usually full of diseases. The lowest of the low are the Lot Lizards who hang out at the truck stops and bother the heck out of us late at night. In contrast, I traveled out to Nevada several times and witnessed the Bordello system out there and came away wondering why this great nation does not embrace this concept.

As a fellow tax-paying American, I feel this is the best way to curb the spread of disease, clean the streets of the nasties, put a tighter clamp on any child prostitution and in many ways; leave women in general society alone. Look at how this is done in Nevada:

1) The women there are safe from crime, drugs and are constantly monitored for diseases.
2) Though I cannot provide and hardcore statistics, many of the residents in Nevada have told me that the divorce rate, rape and child assault crimes in Nevada are minimal because of the brothels.
3) Almost all of the houses are out of plain site, eliminating the argument that children who see these places are irrevocably brain damaged.
4) The folks are used to them for the fact that nobody bothers anyone.
5) None of the brothels I have visited ever had any problems with violence. Something about sex really brings peace to a man.
6) Some of the places I have visited stated that the bordello system is one of the first lines of defense against child trafficking.

Now I am certain many of you are vehemently opposed to this due to God`s Law and such. But there really is no better way to deal with this. If legalized prostitution was instituted through the 50 states, online predators and sex crimes against underage children would almost disappear. Why take chances when there are legal alternatives? Always made sense to me. In addition, I feel sexual harassment charges would drop dramatically. No reason for a man to ask a woman out for a dating risking any sort of legal troubles when he can just save money and party at the cat-house. Finally, it does indeed bring in money into our crashing economy. Some argue that our government cannot find a way to tax the sex-industry: HOGWASH! Believe me, our government specialized in taxation.

Lets face it folks, prostitution is almost regulated in one form or another in every first world nation except for 49 states in the USA. The way our law enforcement goes about prostitution is not a good way either. Sure they make arrests and print names in websites and newspapers but is this the best way to go about it? I say no. Some can argue about how this will ruin our children, I can counter on how several other things are worse: drugs, smoking, mindless violence to name a few. Are kids really as stupid as us grownups claim them to be? If they are, it`s our fault for not teaching them in a way so they CAN understand.

I say the Obama Administration should seriously look into this. We can solve a big problem with a successful long term problem. How each state dictates policy is up to them. This country can move forward and improve a very vital aspect of society if we can regulate and legalize prostitution properly now and not later.

jluong2 I think you just want to bang girls closer to home so you don't have to tell your mom where you went the last 4 nights. Your arguments of tightening the ring of child prostitution is unrealistic and doomed to fail to say the least. I think you should really read what you wrote and then slap yourself for wasting my time and your time. - 11 months ago
Infogirl Who is more at fault-the one who sins or the one who pays to sin? It's true that this legalization would benifit some people-but I think it's really horrible to make something you can purchase. It's really degrading to women in my opinion. How would you feel if the most intimate thing you can do was being taxed? Women can still be forced into this industry even if it's legalized-evil people are very clever. yes, less men will be lonely and less wives will find out about infidelity=less divorce - 11 months ago
MROREGON Go take a cold shower and come back to read this because you are going to need a few drops of blood in your actual brain to understand. Yeah we could end forest fires by just burning them all down, but that's kinda like pissing in your cornflakes isn't it ! If society doesn't hold some thing sacred then nothing will be; and you don't want to go there ask Rome ! This propaganda that you have been fed is 99% lies, try reading what the other side has to say now. Like the CDC stats or AFA charts ! - 10 months ago
good-looking-geek This utopia you speak of will never make it. Look at Amsterdam or Germany where prostitution is legalized. There will always be brothel owners who will beat and exploit their women (most do now). The women will not be in danger from their customers as much as from their brothel owners and pimps. Brothel owners will recruit young girls from all over the country who believe their lives to be hopeless and exploit them in a brothel. Legalized prostitution is not safe for women. - 10 months ago
uberdave Your idea will solve A LOT of problems. It will and that's true.... but now just think of all the NEW problems it might cause.... - 10 months ago
jessi02 I think your a pig...it is degrading to women and you need a life. - 10 months ago
ilovelovelove Hmm... a lot of it makes sense. It's kind of weird to think of sex as something that you can buy off the counter, but hey, I think a lot of it does make sense (like less sexual harassment, rapists, etc).

But now, explain to me, how does it minimize divorce rates? Because somehow, now it's legal to cheat on your wife? - 9 months ago
farmhand99 Um no they shouldnt that's my thoughts - 9 months ago
melissarose8585 There are some issues. I agree, it would help in some instances (and it isn't leaving, as it is the oldest profession known). But it would also bring other problems to the forefront.

By the way, kudos for the lot lizard term! I haven't heard that in forever! - 9 months ago
kao721 You know, you all could say how disgusting he is for showing his view on things, but prostitution is legalized in almost every other county. As far as child trafficking, stupid. Prostitution is legal and very popular in thailand which is also one of the leading countries for child trafficking. Very flawed, but interesting article nonetheless. - 9 months ago
jacquesvol Legalizing wouldn't change much: legalizing would signify collecting taxes and most prostitutes would continue "the old way", it wouldn't stop them from getting on drugs, from catching STD's, then dodging controls. There would be a few "legal", expensive prostitutes and lots of "illegal" cheaper ones, not very different from the present situation. Problem is that solliciting can be controlled and enforced, prostitution not. So they would just be legalizing sollictiting. - 8 months ago
lefthand I quite agree. It is really time we got rid of our religious laws (all vice crimes are just laws left over from when religion was able to dictate morality with criminal penalties). I think we should also legalize drugs as well.

Happy people are not violent and don't want to bother anyone. It is only when you make something illegal (and hence increase the price), that the criminal element gets involved. As you pointed out, when a "vice" is legal, it changes the face of it. - 8 months ago
ErikaSmith Funny that you think prostitution would make sex crimes go down. In countries where prostitution is more common and in countries where it is legal they have many more sex crimes, sexual slavery, and higher rates of sexually perverse activities. Look at Thailand, India, the Netherlands, Italy, Eastern Europe, Russia, Turkey. I understand your hypothesis, but the evidence available says you are wrong. - 6 months ago
chica1 Siddharth Kara, "Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery." Here was the big surprise, countries that have legalized prostitution or don't enforce their prostitution laws have high rates of sex slavery. Italy legalized street walking thinking that it would be giving woman more freedom and protection, instead they saw huge rises in brutalization of woman in slavery. Amsterdam, Italy, and Thailand have seen similar rises. If you want the numbers read the book! - 6 months ago
mormongirlmichl You sick, sick psycho... lol
actually, in a nice way, I severely disagree with you. - 5 months ago
Noble Aren't there 50 states in this great country? It just goes down hill from there..... - 4 months ago
tamc1337 Prostitution is a victimless crime. It probably wouldn't cut the rate of other crimes if it were legalized, but it definitely has the busyness aspect.

"Legalized prostitution is not safe for women."
-Not all women have to be prostitutes. I fail to see how legalizing prostitution would incur any attacks against women.
-Wouldn't that mean male prostitutes are also in danger?

There should be some more research about this. Find an elected official who has this idea and you'll make a great story. - 3 months ago
Smurfguy Legalizing prostitution would be the worse thing to do America already has a problem with the trafficking of women to other countries where it is legalized and families miss daughters yearly at a rate higher then drug trafficking its the worse thing that could happen allowing women to sell sex like it was food some of those women are manipulated into that position while others are drugged and forced into situations like that they may seem like they want to but each one has a story be sympathetic - 3 months ago
