I've experienced this . After they ask me out/say they like me its a little awkward . But they are my best guy friends and I would hate to lose there friendship so I try my hardest to make conversation with them and try and keep what they said out of my head to make it less awkward
Some people get really uncomfortable about saying certain things that may cause the guy to think that he has a chance . Some girls avoid the guy like a death plague . I would still be friends with him though . I mean, just because he thinks you're awesome isn't a reason to avoid him . I just tell him straight that it won't work out, give examples why (without hurting his feelings) and if he's ok with being just friends, then that's it .
Had an experience of this from a guy's perspective (I liked a girl, she knew it, and this is how she acted). Things grew weird between us. As much as neither of us wanted them to, they did. We used to be able to chat and have fun for hours together, but once she found out, it got weird. Neither one of us knew what to do or to say to each other any more. Eventually, once I started acting normally with her again, things changed back and we were close again. I realized that it was actually me that was the one acting weird, not her. I was the one avoiding her because I didn't want to get hurt or some such stupid reason as that.
