Guys want to marry "the good girl type", because as we get older we realize that "Candy nice butt" isn't our girl. However, all men are dogs. We sleep around crazy when we are young. It isn't until a man is 30 or 35 that he realizes what he has in "a nice girl". When I was in my 20's, I was so freakin' crazy. And before that, I bagged dozens of chicks.
I now that's not pretty, but I am trying to be honest. When a man says he respects you, that's like a rose in your hand.
And to add to what has been said, some guys like a little bit of both independent and a little bit of dependent. I don't like the word or the action itself of molding someone into something they are not. And even worse, some people become someone else when they are in love with, or are infatuated about someone. I respect women that can be themselves, regardless of what life throws at them and be as happy, as strong, as supportive, as everything else they have been all along in good times, in bad times, at all times... RESPEK...

It depends on the guy. Any guy can say he respects you, but, does he show it in his actions? If he really respects you then he'll act like it. Some guys don't like independent girls, some guys like girls who they can mold into what they want them to be.
Respect is an honest and positive term. It's not the sexiest word in the dictionary but take it as a compliment. Smart guys want smart, independent girls.
So many girls obsess about drama and useless emotional crap, so when I meet a girl who can actually think logically I know she's a keeper. I also want a girl who can take care of herself. It seems that until they're 30, most women live off of somebody else, drive a car that was bought for them, use daddy's gas card, or just go around having guys buy them what they want. So the girl who can pull her own cash is a keeper.
Haha, stereotyping much? I am 22, bought my own studio appartment, live 3 hours away from my parents, don't accept drinks from strangers, and always go dutch, when on dates. I also study and work part time. Take that! - More than a year ago
