My best guy friend has a girl friend but the least few times we have been on the phone he has said I love you when saying goodbye, we used to say that but its been basically a year and it always felt kind of awkward to me even though I kinda like him.

Also he had asked me if I still liked him (i forget what we had been talking about) but I told him I don't know, I just want to know what everyone thinks he has never said like likes me but then again he has never said he didn't. I am confused

So what's going on?

If he and his girlfriend aren't getting along as well as they should be, or seem to be, then I would be thinking "Okay what's his intentions? "

It sounds weird, why would he ask you if you liked him and then say "I love you" - wouldn't he expect to hear it back? And in what way is he expecting it to be meant as? Does he think that you like him and love him, or have love for him as a friend and like him?

And it sounds like he could be trying to either strengthen you guys' friendship, or he may like you, too. I would talk to him, see what's up - like, is he happy in his current relationship? That kind of thing.

He loves his girlfriend, I know that much. I usually know what he is thinking but I am confused at this point. He knows I like(d) him cause I had told him about a year ago when I moved. But things have changed. when I told him that I just thought he was hot but now he is much more. He is just an amazing guy that not man people get to see. I love our friendship and him so much that I'm not sure I want to change how we are together. I don't want anything to make it awkward between us. - 6 months ago

There are little, subtle differences that I'm wondering about. Like if I was talking to my best friend I would say "Okay, love ya, lata/bye" not "I love you, see ya" and I would only say it like this because I know she can pick up on the context if it. It's a simple little difference that's so subtle but understandable.

Also it kind of sounds like an ego boost to him, by the timing of the events. Like, he wanted to hear it, he didn't need to hear it. But I'm only guessing there, I don't know him - 6 months ago

Sometimes he says love you, bye and others he says I love you ,bye.
a few times when he said it I acted like I didn't hear him and just said bye. I don't want to say anything because I don't know in which way he means it.

I think he really care about you as his friend, but he has also wondered what it would be like if you two had ever dated. I think when he says it, he means it as a friend. But he still has this curiosity about it.

But the next time he says it, I would just say "Love ya, too. And you know what I love, is the fact that I can always depend on you when I need a friend. If you ever changed, I'd kick your butt, lol. " I mean, you could say something like that just to set the context of it. - 6 months ago

Ok well me and this girl are like best friends too and when we get off the phone I say iloveyou to her too. but he probably likes you or it can be he is just used to saying that. go ask him again.
