the girl that I'm going to prom with originally asked some other guy first (who happened to be one of my friends). he turned her down and is apparently going with another girl. I care a lot about the girl that I'm going with and I wouldn't want to hurt her but I also don't want her to think that I was desperate to go with her.(she knows that I didn't ask her before because she asked the other guy). should I tell her that I got turned down by a girl already which is why I'm going with her. that way we would feel more "equal" but I don't want to tell her that she wasnt my first choice (which she was) if its going to hurt her feelings. what should I do?

Don't make it seem like something that its' not, whether more or less. Forget who asked who first and just have a good time. If she asks, tell her straight or say, "you're here and I'm here, so what else really matters?".
