So confused. Not quite sure where our relationship lies. Our relationship started as a mentorship, which now developed to a close friendship. But not quite sure if I can identify the signs that he may be interested in taking our relationship into the next level. At work, he always there when I am in a jam, making time for me. If we are not calling each other, we are sending emails on a daily basis, just being goofy. How can I tell if he would be interested in taking our relationship into the next level without jeopardizing our friendship?

You can't tell because this guy is your friend, he will talk to you alway, if you ask him to go out for coffee and he would go with you. You have to ask him straight out if he have feeling for you and want to take the relationship to another level. Don't assume that he likes you because of the appearance of his actions. He can act like you he likes you but when he saw another girl he likes, he can drop you like a hot sack of potato. I had a painful lesson from the same situation as you. Basic appearance, he acts like he like me, he flirts, teases me, acts jealous of every guys come in my life and attentive like a boyfriend. Later he finds a girl and he came out telling me, our relationship is base on friendship and nothing more.

well.if he would light heartedly flirt with you, even in a jokingly way
ask him if he would like to go out for a coffee after work and talk to him.just generally.

another way is to just act like you've found someone else. that really always works.make him jealous.

Try to spend more time with him. If you feel comfortable enough you can ask him if there are any girls he is after. Also try asking him this question. Guys usually will have an answer tailored to them.
