I'm from Europe and have noticed stereotypical habitual tendency in the United States to be overweight. So ladies, women, also men. Why do you keep staying overweight? Is it because parents did not teach you how to eat healthy? High School's fault or Macdonalds? or is it just fast paced life? what are your reasons.
It can be heredity, in the genes. Usually if the parents are overweight, then the children will be too. Another reason could be now days technology is so advanced that it does everything for us, and we don't have to do actual manual labor. Could be numerous reasons. I've put on some weight in the past year, but that's because I haven't been as active as I used too.
I strongly disagree with the concept that anybody is "big boned" or "biologically bigger." I know many overweight people (including friends and family) and I have seen their eating habits. I have concluded that all of them are fat because they want to be fat. If they would simply stop eating butter, mayonnaise, fried food, hot dogs, and fast food (one friend rightfully calls it fat food) then they would watch the fat magically disappear. But they all choose not to, but at least they know it. - 3 months ago

I have couple friends that went from Morbidly Obese to really slim. It can be done. Also, I used to be really skinny and now regular weight. Definitely took work to get where I am. Genes aren't important. My suggestion, Do some drugs (coke, x, or meth) go to some rave parties you'll be skinny in no time. - 3 months ago
Thats pretty funny. Overweight girls are awesome. And they are great if I wanted to Brain F*** them, most of the time they are more mature and intelligent. And the really gorgeous women are the dumbest of them all. If there was a section with "I'm the best of two worlds" women it would be great! - 3 months ago
That's a great question.I am overweight but have been working at it since January to stop being that way! I have a ways to go but what I have noticed is it is really easy to get premade foods as well as fast foods and ordering in and you think it's ok, as long as you don't overeat (which rarely you don't). But really making your own food is best.you know what's going in it. All the processed foods out there tend to have chemicals which really don't belong in your body. I'm not saying go natural, although if I could afford it would be nice, I'm just saying when you want to eat a burger, freakin make your own.it takes like ten minutes and chances are you'll stay fuller longer when you don't have the chemicals that make you keep going back to the food chains in it.
So I would say for me it's mostly the "fast paced" life that has kept me obese.I had to make it fast paced on my feet rather then on my ass! Ha ha!
Some of us do work out and watch what we eat. I only struggled with my weight once, and it turned out my thyroid had stopped working. Since I got a script for that, everything has been fine.
That said, I really don't know why obesity has exploded recently, especially in children. I know people talk about the sedentary lifestyle that kids have today, but it doesn't seem like it's that different than when I was a kid. I watched TV all the time, and pretty much wouldn't eat anything that didn't have a ton of sugar in it. And I was never a fat kid, but I really can't say that had anything to do with how I was living. I don't know what kids are doing now that could possibly be so much worse.
Oh if only it was that easy. See my question about how much I exercise, I also do not eat fried foods, takeaways once in a blue moon, rarely eat McDonalds, don't eat cheese, Mars bars and such like just the odd mini fun fize as a treat - you get the idea.anyway I still struggle to keep the weight off, I am not hugely overweight but its an everyday battle and its certainly not easy.
I don't know if that is your picture, but if it is you don't look big at all. Everyones body has their own "set" weight that is best for them. It's not bad until it becomes a health problem....I'm sure you're fine. But there is nothing wrong with having a target weight...lol. - 3 months ago
In recent American society people are so busy working that they forget about their health. Many parents stock their homes with salty canned foods and snacks so that their children will have something to eat while they are away, this in turn creates a habit in the child(like most things food is addictive). The parents themselves are rarely home and have little time to prepare a meal so they either have a microwave meal or they go to their local drive-thru (take aways). Both the child and the parent have now created a pattern for themselves that is very hard to break, and once you get fat cells they don't go away they just shrink, so it become even harder to get their weight down even when they do take an interest in their health.
Great answer, I totally agree! (although I'm not american) LOL!!! - 3 months ago

..was referring to true "badass fatties" that "can do whatever [they] want" it was a comment to the user response and not to comments, don't be so selfish, the world does not revolve around you ladies. But I just don't understand the whining of the badasses "I'm depressed that's why I eat. I eat because I'm depressed." Or "It's my gene's fault" (true but that why you have to work so much smarter and harder). If you are overweight hit up the gym and not the restaurant. - 3 months ago
This is not an easy question.there are tons of reasons. Let's begin with the car epidemic. I lived in europe for a bit, and as you know, most european cities have a great public transit system; of course, that's because most european cities were built long before the car came into existence, so there was the incentive to build buildings closer together; in the usa, cities were built for the car, so the incentive to walk to the nearest shop is not there. There are exception cities like san francisco, boston, nyc, chicago, etc. But 99% of usa cities are not meant to be walked. What impact does that have? Simple. When I was in europe for example, I had to walk tot he store to get my groceries. Once I got there, hell, I didn't want to walk back with 10 bags so I bought just the necessities of what I needed. Next thing I know, I had lost about 3 kg in 3 weeks basically cause I had reduced my oral intake, and also, I coudln't make trips to the fridge, cause I had no extra food there. So I started drinking more tea, and well, eating less. You combine that with the fact that you also have to walk to places, instead of driving, and you can see how people in the usa by default will be fatter. Another reason as you mention is the bad food in schools. A lot of the food served in schools is horrible. Is not like they go to the organic market and get the food; most likely, the schools go to walmart and get the cheapest they can find to feed the school kids. Another factor that most people are totally clueless about is fluoride; most of the water supply in the usa has fluoride. Well, studies just came out showing that fluoride does kill the thyroid? And what is one of the thyroid functions? To control metabolism. And of course, I'm not going to get into the other chemicals found in foods which are killing us slowly, so as you can see, is a combination of different factors that leads to obesity in the usa. However, don't be so cocky.europe is approaching the same obesity rates as the usa. England can easly compete, and on the news last week, greece is right behind. :)
