I talk to him every day for hours on the net, text, etc. He told me one time that I made him nervous and I asked why and all he said was "because."
When we hang out, he seems really distant..... which confuses me since we talk lots. If we go places in a big group with friends I feel like he avoids me for the most part and doesn't make lots of eye contact. I don't understand. I like him, but I feel like he doesn't feel the same way. I don't know if I should tell him because I do not want to ruin our friendship. What should I do?
Doesn't sound promising to me. Online communication is easier than face to face contact when dealing with someone that you aren't sure you like. It's impersonal in some ways, allowing a person to deal with text rather than a person.
If he's really shy, then he might find it easier to communicate online and via "texting," while still being shy in person. But the distance and lack of eye contact suggest to me that his interest isn't high.

If he says you make him nervous and he wouldn't tell you the reason, maybe he's too embarrassed to tell you that he has feelings for you. You should tell him to give you a real answer other than just "because".
