I was hanging out with this guy, at first he seemed to like me, we kissed, made out, no sex. Later he said to my friend that he's afraid I might fall for him, he's 23 and I'm 17.
Then later when we were hanging out he complimented me by chance, said he liked my eyes, etc. He seemed to be kind of emotional with me, he smoothed my skin and hair and I felt him staring at me while I pretended to watch something else. He seemed to really care about me, but in a father way, even we kissed.
We stopped hanging out because we got both kind of busy, he with job and school and me in high school. He called me at that time and I kind of ignored him, then he left me voice message asking me to call him but I never did, because I thought he only liked me as a friend and he didn't want to hurt me, so that's why he kept calling, but it was what just me thought, maybe I analyzed too much idk.
Anyways here goes Christmas eve and he calls me, but I miss to hang up, he asks me to call him back and couple days later I do! We haven't been talking since 2 months ago. His voice sounded nervous. He asked me if I want to hang out and I said yes, so he told me he'll call me on the weekend. so here's Saturday night and I haven't got a call yet. does he like me as a friend or a date?
Update: Do you think he really fears the age difference?

It's possible, maybe even probable, but I don't think that's anything that can't be overcome. Just act like all of your 17 years, and he'll see that this was a good choice.
I think he likes you more as a friend taking the fact that he said he was afraid you might fall for him - a guy who wants u, would like you to fall for him. he seems to be confused .... or he may just wanted to mess up a little bit with you with no commitment at all...
if he does not call you or excuse himself for not cancel out the "date" then you know the answer....
is he shy? if he is then you might consider that ....
He could be afraid of the age difference. Also he could just be nervous about talking with you. Don't worry about him not calling today, there's still Sunday. But it seems that he likes you as more than a friend because you said that you had kissed and that he was complimenting you.
