I got really mad at my ex boyfriend because of why he broke up with me, and I cut myself . Only once though . And somehow everyone at school found out and keep talking about it . They all say that they never pictured me cutting myself . Now I wished that I would have never done it ! I feel so bad ! And people keep saying that I am EMO ! Is it called EMO if you only do it once and you never do it again ? Do you think that I am going EMO ? It feels a lot like it, and I am just really really confused ! So please Help me ! I promise I will never do it again if someone just helps me !

No, you are not "emo". After my relationship ended I cut myself. However, it is just a way of releasing inner pain through another way. It does not make you "emo" at all; you cannot put someones behavior down to a fashion statement. You were obviously hurt and found this the best way to alleviate your pain. There will be many that sympathize with your situation who also are not "emo".
A word of advice, as I am and have been in this situation, try and find solace in your friends rather than self harm - especially on a subject such as this. No guy is worth spilling your blood over, especially if he has left you. I know it may seem hard to get over at first, but you will move on, and you'll feel all the better for it when you do.
I hope this advice has helped and I hope everything sorts itself out for you.

Answerer Don't worry yourself, and don't listen to anyone who does call you an emo, because they are just losers with nothing good to do with their time .
I'm glad to have helped you out, and hope it all goes well for you =] - 8 months ago

Your not emo!
i don't even get what the terms are for being emo. People called me emo once. Only because of the music I listened to. And it wasn't even "emp" music. People often call people emo. Just for the fact that they like something different!
and for the cutting part. There have been times when I've had friends that have done it. And it wasn't because they were emo. It was because the pain that they were feeling on the inside was so hard, that they needed something to take there inner pain away or at least make that pain unnoticeable, so what's better them physical pain.
to them they would much rather the physical pain then the emotional pain.

Let me just say that there is not a guy out there that is worth doing harm to yourself over . Guys are going to come and go . You need to realize that you have way too much self worth to be doing this type of thing . And if you think that you don't, then I would start with that . Somebody once told me that if you are not enough alone then you will never be enough with someone . I think that you need to realize your self worth and esteem is not measured by who you are dating but instead it is a value that you put on yourself . Good Luck

This misconception that all self harmers are emo really pisses me off no your not an emo !
you have just tried to find away of expressing your feelings and unfortunately you chose to self harm, self harming is a very vicious cycle you do it because your down all seems fine while it hurts because its the only thing your concentrating on, then after you look at the cut, feel bad, worry about people finding out and do it again . I myself are an ex self harmer and once you've started trust me its one of the hardest habit to kick, imagine having to explain to your child why you have all those scars .
if self harming wasn't so widely publicized most teens wouldn't no about it .
as for all the people talking about it at school ignore it, just don't listen, someone will do something next week and no one will even remember what you did, the more you react the more people will talk just for a reaction .
and as a final note if you do have anything to ask about self harming . Before you do it, talk about it, you can contact me through my profile :) sometimes its the best thing to talk to someone with an outside view .
Take care xXx
