We've all heard/use that line before. I know instances when I've been told that to be let down easy. I've even used it myself. I've always thought of it to be a BS excuse. Does apply across the board or are there really exceptions? What if a girl has just gotten out of a long term relationship and you were close with her and she says this?

it's not BS, not in my case at least. I am really not look for a relationship and I've had to turn down a few guys. I'm focused on school and fast tracking my degree, I'm just not interested in getting involved with anyone.
but yes, most of the time girls will say that because they are just not interested in the particular guys who's asking. for instance, I got asked out by a 300+ lb guy last week who's unemployed and doesn't do well in school. not only was I not physically attracted to the guy in the slightest, but he and I have different priorities. even if I was looking for a relationship, I would have told him that I'm not interested in dating.
but at the moment, my "excuse" is very much the truth; it's not just me not having the heart to tell the guy that he's obese and unmotivated. I would turn down any guy that approached me. (unless it's Ewan McGregor or Russell Crowe)

College school work and/or job opportunities are valid reasons for that phrase. Sometimes, also, a person simply doesn't want to date.
