Is there a reason why guys ask girls out for drinks as opposed to a dinner date?

Usually a girl who won't go out for drinks isn't the kind of girl a guy wants to date. Some girls like a day at barnes and nobles. Most guys like a night at the bar.

Well it could go either way.
true drinks are less formal, as opposed to a nice restaraunt
but a smaller less formal restaurant wouldn't be a problem with me

or they want to get you drunk and take you home...thats the other side

Because if it turns out to be a bad date when it comes to dinner, you have to arrive, chat for a bit, order, wait for your food to come out and eat it before you can leave, whereas if you go out for drinks, you order as soon as you get there, you have it served to you within 3 mintues and by the time you have drinking it is just enough time for both of you to decide whether you want another round or call it a night. It's easier to get away from a bad date if it's drinks. If drinks is fun, you can have dinner the next weekend.
