How do I go about asking a friend out?

I have this friend, her and I have been mates for about 4 years. Both of us just came out of serious relationships and I saw her at a party the other night, we ended up crashing together and just cuddling all night, I kinda get the feeling she might like me but doesn't want to ask. My ex partner who I'm still good friend with says she would get really upset when she saw photos of us together because our body language seems like more than friends, (it wasn't till she brought this up that I actually consciously realized how much I'm attracted to her)

anyway any advice would be fantastic
