How do I find out if he is seeing anyone with out just straight up asking him? I don't know any of his friends or anything and he doesn't know any of mine-we just have calc together btw.

* if he said his girlfriend bought for him, then you know he has a girlfriend.
* if he said he bought it for himself, then you can say: oh wow, your girlfriend must be happy you know how to buy dress. I bet she taught you alot. how long you guys been together?

Bring it up lightly in conversation. Don't mention it in relation to your life, rather in the context of one of your friends. Maybe say something about one of your guy friends' girlfriends, but weave it into a convo you're already having Like, "Oh, my friend Jeremy's girlfriend took him to see that band for his birthday, but ugh, she is so ______ , I don't know how he deals with it." Then ask if he's ever dealt with a girl like that. Chances are that he has, in which case you can simply say, "oh, current or ex?" And with that, you have your answer.
