Referring to a person as "love"...When you call someone that, is there a deeper connotation attached to it or is it just another variation of a pet name?

Depends on the person if they are really playful then its just a pet name if they are more reserved its probably deeper but its really hard to discern

It can be either/or. Usually its a pet name. Things like "Hello My Love" usually have a deeper meaning. Where as "Hello Love" is normally used in the sense of a pet name. I would go with your instincts, this is a tricky one because it depends on how it is said, previous relationship with the person saying it, etc.

Being the anglophile that I am, I call lots of people "love." It's just a pet name there. As Maximus242 said, though, big difference between "love" and "my love." I think it would be hard to say exactly how deep the meaning went without knowing the tone and the way in which it was said.

Question Asker Does it imply that you love the person you're saying it to. Is it more of a romantic term or just a superficial pet name? - 9 months ago
