what helps me is telling the girl I'm nervous and then we could laugh about it
just tell her wow I'm so nervous trying to talk to you and believe me if she's a nice girl she's gonna say don't be nervous and she might hold your hand if possible try faking it a little more but be careful not to go over the edge doing it because she might seem disgusted

I've found it depends on where it happens at and how hot the woman is. If it's in a bar and her shields are up, then you're coming to look like a dork and be blown out. Doubly so if she's super hot.

If it's in a coffee shop or library, not so much. That's when it's more endearing. Doubly so if she's not as good looking.

In the last year I've approached about 200-250 women and that's just what I've found. Granted a lot more of it has to do with your delivery than simply flubbing what you say. If you get all flustered and choke up then you're not going to get very far. If you just look unaffected and plow forward you can recover rather well. But seriously though, delivery is key. You can practically walk up and read off your grocery list if you have your body language and vocal delivery down solid.
