Okay, here's the thing: I can't tell the difference between perfumes, colognes, pine sol, bug spray, and rubbing alcohol. They all smell exactly the same to me. I'm ethylene sensitive which means anything made with ethylene (ingredient in alcohol and everything else I mentioned above) gives me a mild allergic reaction. If I'm around it, the taste of alcohol fills my mouth and it becomes all I can smell. My mouth dries out and it hurts to swallow. It becomes totally overwhelming and it usually sticks with me for a few minutes even after the source of the smell goes away. If they pile it on strong, my throat closes up and it becomes hard to breathe. Being around guys who are wearing colognes does this too.
This has made meeting girls a problem throughout my life because I usually can't approach them since it seems like every girl wears something with ethylene in it. Being out in public sometimes is bad enough cause you're never far from someone wearing it.
How do I deal with it? How can I get out there and meet girls despite this problem? And WHY DOES EVERY GIRL HAVE TO WEAR PERFUME/COLOGNE? If you stop to think that maybe you're gonna be around people who are allergic to it, it's REALLY insensitive.
I never wear perfume. I am not allergic to it, but I can't stand the smell of it. It makes me want to choke, although not physically as in your case. I honestly don't like it when guys wear cologne either, it does not make me want to go after them. Actually is quite opposite. I can't stand that smell. lol. I just use deorderant. That's it. There are people out there that don't wear perfumes. I am one and I am sure there are others. Honestly I don't know why people wear it sometimes. I don't really know what to say, since it is an allergy and lots of people wear it. Just try to stay clear of it, even though that is a little difficult.
well mostly we wear it because so many guys love it. It's been proven time and time again that scents attract men and women. I've never even thought until right now that someone might be allergic to it. However, I can't see myself not wearing it anymore because the guys that hate it are so few compared to the guys that love it! The only thing I could suggest is if there is any sort of medication you can take that will make you not so sensitive. And then after you get close enough to meet them and form some sort of bond you can tell them about your allergy and politely ask her not to wear it while your out. Hope that helps a little! I don't have much experience with the issue.
It's not like there's no such thing as allergy medication. Maybe even some of the over the counter stuff, like Claritin, would help. If you've tried all that and it doesn't work, then okay, but I really don't see any harm in asking. - 3 months ago
Question Asker
Again. its not a true "allergy" its an extreme sensitivity which is different. - 3 months ago
Yeah but when you put so much on you smell like a whore house it turns a lot of guys off. I do not come running to a woman because the smell like Strawberry, Jazmine, Kiwi, Lime, Cocobutter with a hint of Sh*t sprinkled on her. I have a allergy to strong smells. If a woman stinks, I will not go anywere near her. It turns me off. Besides that a women that is clean and has just a hint of Vanilla on her skin is much more erotic than an overwhelming stench of what every your wearing. - 3 months ago
Believe it or not, I have gone thru what you have been for years. There is no real answer to our problem. I have tried asking some of my girlfriends to not ware perfumes/colognes they still do. I have break up with women because of it. Like you I can be down wind of a woman that is wearing some god awful stench and I can smell her from 50' away, along with other personal odors. I have left restaurants because of perfumes/colognes men and women ware. I have to smell every personal item that I by because if it is too strong I can not ware it. I don't wear aftershave, I don't use scented bar soap or shampoo, Even the smell of a condom makes me ill and if a woman hasn't cleaned for a couple of days. I will not even sleep in the same bed because I can not breathe.
How do I deal with it? There is no real way to deal with it beyond what you are doing. You can ask women not to wear it around you. (Good luck with that suggestion.) You can try to find a woman that doesn't wear any perfumes/colognes. They are out there.
And WHY DOES EVERY GIRL HAVE TO WEAR PERFUME/COLOGNE? One theory, which I don't really hold true 100%, is that the women that always have it on do not bathe. They use the perfumes/colognes to cover up their Body odor stench.
If you stop to think that maybe you're gonna be around people, who are allergic to it, it's REALLY insensitive. They do not care. I have gone round after round after round with women because they feel they have the right to wear it and to hell with every one else. It makes the feel pretty.
