How do I tell the difference between playing 'hard to get' and just not being interested?

It's actually usually simple! if they're playing hard to get, they're not pissy (lol) or like serious. They're kinda playful and leave questions hanging. but when they really aren't interested, they won't ever talk to you without you talking to them.

if you tell her you are interested in her and she's non-responsive to that then she's playing hard to get. even a shy person will respond in an affectionate manner even if the shy girl doesn't want to directly say I like you too.

but if you haven't directly expressing your feelings, then well if she's still friendly with you and calls you out to do things, then that's ambiguous if she is pursuing you or wants you just as a friend.

but if she doesn't call you at all; and she doesn't flirt back, then forget it, she's clearly not interested.

if she ignores your calls but replies in text, she is merely shy and doesn't want to reveal her nervous voice!

In many cases, a girl may not want a boyfriend but just a friend, but it doesn't mean she won't see you as a boyfriend later on. girls won't be friends with a guy they are not interested in at all on some level.

Well, I don't play mind games, but guys probably think I do. I am shy, so I may look like I am not interested when I actually may be. It depends on the girl, what she acts like. . . If she is in class and keeps to herself and is quiet, it is a good chance that she is shy. That doesn't mean she doesn't want to talk to anyone, she just doesn't know how to get OUT there. So as in if a girl is "hot" then "cold" (as in she flirts with you, then ignores you, it could be that she is just shy). I have those days where I am happy one moment, then the next moment I'm not. But yeah, some girls are like that, I am not, but I probably send that message of "not interested".

The thing is most girls don't play mind games, but when they aren't intrested in a guy it seems like they are. If the girl is constatly flaking out on you, then chances are she not intrested, so when you say hey do you have plans this weekend and she says no but then when you call and she doesn't answer, you think she's busy, here's a FACT guys women live by their damn phones, they are constalny texting or talking to their friends on them, so think about that, if she doesn't answer your call she's not intrested.

Or she doesn't want to talk on the phone, so then wait until the next day not at like 3 or something and send her a text, 9 times out of 10 they will answer a text over a phone call don't ask me why they just do. I have called a girl and she diddnt answer so I texted her and bam she sent one right back . Now if you have called and texted and don't text her five billion times just one time is fine, and if she doesn't respond to your text then move on find another girl.

You again pal, I'm answering all your questions. How about you stop checking the anonymous box and tell us who you were. P.S.- It might help for us to know a bit about you in order to give a better answer.

Anyway, I don't know if I can help you a ton on this one. The ladies can probably give you better advice. If she isn't interested period, then she wouldn't want to be around you. If she is playing hard to get she is maybe leaving you out to dry on some things. Maybe if you ask her to go do something with you and she is saying no a few times {key word few, If she says no all the time, then she would be not interested}. Maybe she is giving you the busy answer or whatever. Don't take it to heart even if you get that response multiple times. If you leave her alone and she follows, meaning maybe feeling down because you left, she will show her true colors. How do you do that you wonder? Leave her out to dry. You don't have to say yes to every invitation for something to gives you. If you don't see her for awhile and maybe she says something that hints she is missing hanging out with you. Well, then you can at least assume she wants you around her. Doesn't mean she is always interested though, she could just want to be friends.
