Why are you confused about his relationship status, when he told you he has a girlfriend? Why do you care? He obviously wasn't that important to you in the Spring...and the change of seasons isn't a reason to not date someone, unless you have absolutely no interest in them anyway. Maybe he "barely knows" you exist now, because that lame excuse you gave him is so...well, lame.
