I thought this guy liked me, so to test the waters I emailed him to ask about the homework assignment. After that, I added "By the way, I don't know if it was your cologne or just soap, but you smelled really good today. " Was that going too far, did I scare him? I was trying to hint that I liked his flirting, but he didn't respond. He just told me the homework assignment!
Here is what happened before all of this:
There is this guy in one of my classes. Today, there was not a lot of room at the table, so when he sat by me he was pretty close. Our elbows and arms repeatedly touched and when I picked my notebook up for a few seconds, he stretched his arm across my side of the table. He also kept putting his leg close to mine and when our feet touched it was like he was massaging my foot with his shoe; it wasn't subtle at all.
Tou are right, the guy liked you but his intent to flirt. HOWEVER, the comment on how he smelt was definitely not the thing to say to flirt back and you went way too far. If it was me, I would think it was creepy for sure so don't use it as a compliment in the future. You probably should have said something like " We should be partners again. The class wouldn't be as boring" something to give him a hint but that's it.
Is there anything I can do to fix it? Just move on? - 11 months ago

Depends how much you really like him. There is no absolute fix. But if you don't talk to him much I would suggest casual conversation without taking it too far so he realizes that your a cool person. - 11 months ago
