That's a good thing. Just don't read too much into detail about it. Really right now if you guys have yet to hold a conversation together then the smiling is just a start and I can't really for sure say he does like you.
Just to be sure, continue making eye contact and see if this occurs more often. He's most likely interested in you, so if you want to get results a bit faster and you aren't shy around guys then I suggest you confront him and start a conversation.
