Video games are like a big part of my childhood and remain a staple in my life today, but I just find it so odd that a majority of girls hate video games. Any reason why?
lol.. *raise hands* I'm the first to hate video games, well, men since they were kids love games and specially ones with violence and such..Girls nah and every video game out there must have those kinda stuff.. pistols..etc. not much of girls interests..but I don't think any girl would mind her man playing those games..!
I love video games. Halo 3, Hitman, Uncharted 2 - which I'm playing now, and Fable 2 and Half Life are some of my favs. I emjoy the classic Super Nintendo games as well.
I think girls do enjoy video games its just a matter of how much. Some girls are more of a Wii Fit, Mario cart and others Halo and Resident Evil chicks. Plus, I know some girls who dislike games because they feel like they are competing with the game for attention. Which, can't feel good. Its like guy losing out to makeup or the mall or something like that. Plus some of my girl friends don't know how to play, so they don't like it even more because its something they're not familiar with... and all they see is their guy playing a game over spending time with them.
i love video games and so do most of the girls I know which ends up being a lot of people cause I'm counting my online friends you probably just don't know many girls that are into video games
i don't entirely hate video games, its ust that I'm not really content with them, there doesn't seem to be any point in beating some fictional game. kindof like halo or like the racing ones. though I do play amv offroad challenge and sometimes even World of warcraft, and ienjoy guitar hero and rockband and grand theft auto, its just that killing people in war games like halo and stuff just loose interest after a while
I'm just REALLY bad at video games. I can't even beat MarioKart. I can't play hard on GuitarHero. Halo just confuses me. I'm even bad at HarvestMoon. But I still watch my boyfriend play video games. (:
most girls are bored with them. they don't like them because they're boring. I don't think they're boring though! I like video games... I just don't own any... my mom says I have to be "ladylike"... grrr...
I don't play all day but I would if I could. I love playing games, I even have game parties atlest once a week. We eat and drink and play. I play or at lest try and play everything. I like Grand Theft Auto, but sometimes when I'm out I feel like getting out of my car and bitch slapping someone and taking their car LOL I play Halo, it's fun. Call of Duty. Gears Of War, Dead Space, I like blood and gutts splattering everywhere. I also like The Sims and The Playboy Mantion game. I like puzzle games. I love on line. I like talking to people and sometimes talking shit. But if you would ever see me you would never guess I had over 300 games at home just by the way I look, I am very much a girl. But I can hang and kick some ass.
i personally love love playing video games, I'm not very good at them, but they'll a lot of fun. the reason I think most girls don't love them is that they appeal to more male interests. most girls aren't into running people over and shooting cops (grand theft auto) or just running around shooting whatever moves (halo) and generally girls are big into cars and speed (though I am) so they don't enjoy racing games.
personally I love video games, tomb raider and the final fantasy being my faves, and also currently addicted to guitar hero! lol I think the reason why some girls don't like them is that their boyfriend/partner/husbands spend too much time on them and forget about them and don't show them enough attention, although only thing I could say to those girls would be join in and play too guys like it when you do that lol and I know plenty of guys that hate video games so really it all comes down to personal choice not a gender thing.
I LOVE video games! What are you talking about? Lol.
But, a lot of the appeal goes towards guys. A lot of girls don't like blowing/cutting people up (or at least won't admit it), or seeing half-naked, big-breasted, scantily-clad, and useless girls that tend to be in most games. The latter is my only real pet peeve about them, although not strong enough to keep me from playing.
Although, when it comes to things like Guitar Hero, DDR, and Wii games, there's a ton of girls that play them, and rock at them.
i don't hate them I just don't like it if my fiance is spending all his time playing video games and isn't with me. and id rather find something else to do like go for a walk then sit around playing a game.
I love video games! Guitar Hero (I have 1,2, and 3, and I'm going to get World Tour and Aerosmith with xmas/birthday money) Bully (hahaha hitting teachers.) Final Fantasy. I have a wii. I still play my old nintendo 64 and something with arcade games on it! ddr gets me active o and I'm DEFINITELY going to get wii music soon. anyway I'm an expert at guitar hero (well. most songs.) well. I never was a mainstream girl. but I love them. I'm an addict. XD!
I used to play video games and enjoy it as just time to relax and have fun on my own. It is fun but need to think when to stop when enough is enough XD I guess girls find better things to do - like we need to think A LOT on how to look good for guys haha and that sort of stuff but definitely girls play video games and keep it in a secret from everyone. Especially how can girls stay away from such a cute games like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts!?!
I love video games. I'm dating a guy who doesn't like them and I don't think I have dated a guy who liked them in a long time. Maybe you should try multiplayer online games to find girls that like playing video games.
I like them and tend to coop up in my room for several days just to finish a game forgetting about the rest of the world lol.it's just after I'm done I feel like I wasted a week and just the realization that I haven't really accomplised anything and could have done other things makes me feel kinda guilty so I don't do this often.
Hey, at least during that week you were having fun right? I've done the same thing with RPG's like Final Fantasy, but even though it takes up a good amount of my time, there's usually good moments that I remember while playing it afterwards. - 11 months ago
only thing is my mom hated video games so I don't think I ever played any type of video game until I was 13 er something so by then I had already found better things to do than video games, sometimes theyre just a waste of time.
I don't hate video games. I actually like to play them and if I find one I really like, I'll play often. But I have found that many men spend way too much of their lives on video games. My ex would come home and go straight to the video games. He'd sit there for hours and not do anything but play video games. My friend's hubby spends, literally, all his time on video games. But that's just the men I know.
probably because a lot of it is violence and competition - things that girls typically don't care too much about. it's hard for a guy to understand just like it's hard for us girls to understand why guys aren't into shopping and relationships as we are but those are just what we're typically into to.
because most of the video games are made for men not women.lol.I don t wanna kill monsters or other humans in combat.Girls don t wanna kill but they like giving born and creat new things. However, boys wanna destroy what we make and are not interested in creating anything new. They all like having violence lol.
Another one here that loves video games! I prefer Nintendo games like Mario and Pokemon (don't laugh, I have kids). I like racing games, but my latest obsession is Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I MUST beat the game!
good question! i don't hate them most are awesome favorites : Command and conquer (old school haha) unreal tournament, tactical ops and more on the girly side The Sims!
I never had videogames when I was younger, so that's probably a big reason why I don't really like them now, although I don't think that's the same reason a lot of other girls don't like them.
I don't mind them sometimes though, but when guys play them all the time, that's stupid. Also, some are more tolerable than others. Violent games are dumb, and I think sports games are dumb as well, you could just go out and actually play the sport, not simulate it while vegging out and using absolutely no physical activity. (I don't think Wii counts as physical activity either).
Also, I think they're definitely not worth how much people pay for them. I find that a little ridiculous.
well I love video games, I think that most girls don't like it because most guys when they play the games girls sometimes feel like they for get about them. like when they are on the phone with them. they don't talk or they get off the phone to play the game. or some girls belive that its childsh but I really don't think that is I mean yeah games are fun when you don't have nothing to do!
I agree I think you've nailed their reasons. Although to put it back in this type of girls ballcourt here I beg to ask this question? Why must every minute, of everyday, of our lives as guy's be "devoted" to adoring you? Women don't do this for us? So why should we return an over asked favor? I mean, Women have things they adore, do love that don't pertain to us? So why hate on us because we aren't drooling over you every second? What ever happened to let distance let the heart grow fond? - 10 months ago
Coming from a girl who's good friends are complete video game nerds:
I enjoy video games in moderation. Just like guys don't want to go shopping for more than an hour or two, girls don't want to play video games for a long time. Also, a girl may decline playing a video game when she's with her boyfriend and some buddies because she hasn't had as much practice as them. She assumes they will get frustrated with her playing on their team because she will probably bring the team down, which is a big deal for guys who are competitive. It also depends on the video game. Girls would probably rather play something like Super Smash brothers or Crash Bandicoot then WOW, Halo, or Call Of Duty due to its content and what your actually doing in a video game.
So if you want to get your girl engaged in a video game pick one with a happier, more fun content such as GTA, Super Smash Brothers, Wii sports, etc. These are also much more social games. Also encourage her "it doesn't matter if you haven't played before, I can teach you." Also she might be more willing to play one on one then in a larger group at first.
Just one thought here though, aren't you sending a mixed message? Is or is not GTA grand Teft auto a violant game? Infact didn't they want to take such game off the market or Acutally did due to the violant content? Not that I agree'd with that, I personally think with that, "where were the parents at?" Buying a violant game is someones Choice. If you know that GTA is violant then don't buy it for your kid's and don't let them be around it, don't smash my buying "options" because - 10 months ago
Your a crappy parent. The fact that your a $hitty parent is not "my" problem. This doesn't mean that you need to pull every violant game. It means you need to do your "job" as a parent and filter if that's "your" choice. Do I even agree with that? NO! A game is a "GAME" kid's very well so "KNOW" the difference, so saying Well it was the violence in the game that made little billy murder so and so is utter BS! Little billy knew one was virtual reality and one was real life. - 10 months ago
So pulling my "options" away from me as a "Consumer" because some goon attempted to use this as an "Excuse" for murder, is rediculous! I played shoot em up games my entire life, and I haven't become a violant person, nor Murdered anyone! I did end up joining the miliatry though at 19. These games are very "benifital" to our miliary as well, they teach basic room clearing principles and such to soldier's as well, thus the "don't" make these same "mistakes" in real life and not come home - 10 months ago
To you their girlfriend or wife. Which I would have to think is a "Positive" thing? Unless ofcourse you want your man to not come home, and want him dead? OR perhaps want his insurance money? Which is totally WRONG! And if this is you slap yourself right now and get a life. Back to the video game thing, since we are getting "off subject" here some. In the end Don't TAKE $hit away from me because your kid is a loony. That's NOT MY problem. So Don't you dare punish me for his stupidity. - 10 months ago
Answerer
What does this excessive rant have anything to do with this question? - 10 months ago
There are totally nonviolent video games. For example there are racing games, sport games (although I don't like sport games), build a city games etc... - More than a year ago
Question Asker
Yeah, have you ever tried the Sims? - More than a year ago
Ya, I guess, "accomplishing" something must be too difficult a task for "some" women. Here's the quote from above to prove my belief's, "less aggravating." There you go bud, you got your answer, "it's work." Working to accomplish a "task" I guess is just too much for "some women." All I have to say about that is, "TYPICAL!" - 10 months ago
Kind of like electronics often times in general you name them, Radar detectors, laser jammers etc don't remotely interest women. Then again they'd tell you, "Why do I need those things? They are a total waste of money! I could easily get out of a ticket because I have breasts." Typical Stupidity. For all the women that disagree watch speeders on TruTv and learn you guy's are getting ticketed too! And think about this, after the first ticket you detect their radar, the detector has paid for - 10 months ago
Itself now hasn't it? You name it in fines, charges, and court costs. "Well I don't speed." I call bs! Second weather you do, or do not, they purposly place traps that go from 55 to 25 without warning. Although, that's ok I'll just wave and laugh as usual when I know to slow down, and your insurance is raised, you have to take off work to go to court, and you think you got a male judge when in reality after all your complaining about women not being in a position of authority it is a women. - 10 months ago
And she sticks you to the wall, fines you full price, gives you 3 points which will make your insurance rates sky rocket, and lastly laughs at you when you attempt to provide your reason, and point at the cop as if he was merely harrassing you. I've seen it time and time again to the guy above. Yet they still don't care. They still opt to not protect themselves. They still get pulled over, and then they wonder why? Then again when the female judge pins you down because it would be "work" - 10 months ago
To see your side of the story in any way shape or form, let alone explain her reason's to her confidents at the courthouse latter on, she'll do what most women do, "take the easy way out." Then this is where you get fined. Not to mention, the court will probably need the Cashflow in this poor man's economy so don't bet on them letting you off on the charges. When all this could have been avoided if the women would have opened her mind beyond her normal "Close minded" type of thinking. - 10 months ago
But that's right. I'm a geek. You can call me a "geek" al you want, although I say to you once again, I'll be the last one laughing with my Redlightcam detector/GPS trapster datatbase of known places where these types of traps are that aren't even in my area, my detector to pick up the radar/laser, my laser jammers since no detector will save you from a laser trap alone, and also my mobile scanners. Now Do I expect a women to ever take it this far? NO! Although Even placing a cheap whislter - 10 months ago
On your dash, can save you so much trouble in life it's not even funny. My countermeasures alone have saved me THOUSANDS of dollars. Not to mention I don't have a simple infraction to date on my license since I've been driving in 97. How about you females? I bet the story is a lot different. I can almost guarentee you have at least one ticket on your records. Even after all this info guy, I GURENTEE THEY STILL GO UNPROTECTED TYPICAL! But the thing looks Dorky they'll say, or the beeps are - 10 months ago
Annoying. You want to know what's more ugly and annoying? Having a Cop come up to your car, and say, "do you know how fast you where going today so and so?" And you know what looks even dumber? Being on the side of the highway with a cop car behind you and maybe even being in someone's Youtube film. And sometimes people even wave and slow down and point and laugh. No that's just stupidity. Although It's "HOW" women operate. Get used to it bro. - 10 months ago
Alpine you've made a circular argument to which the basis for the conclusion is your own definition of what 'aggravating' could mean. The primary use and definition of the term 'aggravating' is something that is taxing on the emotions regardless of whether physical labor is involved. lastly, no thanks on your sophomoric arguments about court room adjudication on a simple speed ticket. - 10 months ago
I honestly don't mind video games. In fact, ones with a story line behind it I actually like to watch my husband play. I can't play them because the remote controls are just too complicated for me to get down and the games are also too complicated. I only ever play the DS (actually I'm getting rid of it because I never even play that anymore) and the games I do play are easy ones like MarioKart or something. :D Only times video games bother me is when my husband plays them too much. With his line of work, I never see him between 5am-6pm and then he comes home and plays video games all evening or all weekend? That would bother me sometimes, but right now I'd give anything to have him sitting at home doing nothing but playing video games. At least he'd be here.
Aww, you should keep that DS when you get kids. It might be a little old by the time they can actually play it, but I don't think they'll mind. - More than a year ago
I've always liked playing video games, I've just never been especially good at them. RPGs are one thing, but I suck at anything else. I still struggle with Donkey Kong.
Anyway, I think the responses you've gotten here are a pretty good sign that it's just a stereotype that girls hate video games.
Thats good. RPG's are my favorite genre, I'd love to have a girl maybe help me figure out what to do cause sometimes I'll get to a dead end in them (I mean if I'm totally stuck I would look it up, but it would be convenient if I had someone who could help as well). - More than a year ago
I actually like them a lot more than a lot of my guy friends, but then I did grow up with them and in a family of boys so it may just be circumstances.
I think it's a just a stereotype really, but that's just my opinion. ~
Well, personally, I LOVE video games, but I think other girls that kinda hate them were influenced. I used and still do hang out with my guy cousins, we always played sports video games, and used to wrestle(Puberty hit me hard.lol). I, at one point, would come home and play video games for hours at a time.My sister is such a chick. She would pass by me and say, "Rebecca, why do you play video games, those are for guys.Get some friends." of course I had friends, but I didn't care what she thought, I just told her to shuddup. I think why most girls don't like them is because they were influenced like my sister 'TRIED' quote the tried part. Also.I think sometimes some guys get TOO involved into them, I mean I love madden as much as the next guy but I don't get all pissed like my bro does when his team loses. When he plays all we hear is "WWWHHHHOOOOOOOO, GO BABY GO.YEAH!" I mean its ok that he won, but no need for screaming right? But eventually we hear this also, and this is when I hate video games, cause he gets way in to it."OOOHH, COME ON! DAMN IT F***!"
Well, find yourself a girl that loves video games like some of the other girl below(or above)
Like anything, I will play them if I'm among other people who like to and enjoy it. I'm a naturally competative person, so I kind of like that about it. PLUS, liking video games helps me relate to guys much better. (not that I'm a "one of the guys" girl--far from it!)
Sometimes.if I'm with a guy I like, I will tell him that I don't know how to play (insert his favorite video game here)________ and ask him to teach me. A little sly on my part I guess but it brings his many ego into play, and he's butter in my hands! lol not to sound like a vixen or anything, just something I do sometimes.
WHOO for video games! my boyfriend is addicted to halo, and he got me started too.something we enjoy doing together. I probably wouldn't do it if it were just me, but I think it's a great way to connect with your friends! :D
It's just that sometimes a girl just wants attention on her and her only. I mean, hanging out at a my guy's place, my place or wherever is cool, but sometimes guys think "since we're at the house, I'm gonna play video games & it'll be cool." NO, not all the time. Sometimes a girl wants to hang out, watch movies, talk or just cuddle on the couch with her being the center of his attention, not a video game. I guess the key is to not play them that much around the girls you date unless they are included. *Note* This is what my BFF is telling me.
I myself am freakin video game junkie (I have an XBox & 360, Wii, All 3 playstations, Old skool nintendo & super nintendo & a dreamcast - most people don't even know what that is!) I am totally addicted to Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Mario Cart & the Wii (so much that I actually got tendonitis in my back from playing it so much, yes that's right, I had a Wii injury! LOL!) I don't really care too much about my guys playing video games because I want to play them too. It just depends on the type of girl. My BFF is more feminine, OCD a/b cleaning - EVERYTHING & doesn't really have a hobby. I am girly but not really feminine (I like pink & stilettos, but I will belch in front of my B/f!)! I am really laid back, and have tons of hobbies (music, cars, video games, sports). I guess I'm just more "boyish" than most girls yet I am girly when it comes to looks & manual labor! =)
Just look for a girl that would be a good friend and then date her. If she is a cool chick that hangs with the guys regardless of what they are actually "doing" (ie: video games, muddin, partying, etc.), then she probably will be a good match for you.
I'm not really into video games, but I don't mind watching a guy I'm dating play for a while. I don't know why some girls hate them, but I do not that I and especially my friend don't like how the majority of guys will completely lose themselves in a game so far that they wouldn't even notice if we were naked in the same room. I know plenty of guys who will log on AIM but refuse to talk to their gf's because they're playing WOW or guys who will blow off a night out to play the new Dead Space. I think it's mostly just a stereotype girls have, and if you want to combat it, you need to let them know they're more important than a video game. However, don't ever let a girl not let you play at all. There's playing too much, and there's a healthy amount of play. You need your time too and it's unreasonable for a girl to tell you you can't play at all.
Dude, I love video games! n64,xbox,pc games ect you name it ! but that's because my dad and my brother plays them and I took over them.i even completed one or 2 of my brother and dads game haha they was gutted I completed it before them.
i don't think girls dislike games, except from girly girls who rather have make up than have a game with there boyfriend (which I find better as it makes you get to know each other more and stuff)
Your going to get a unique sampling of girls online here…hence the responses. However, I think that it is the lack of lady gamers as role models that generally cast women who played videogames growing up as freaks/weirdos/tomboys ect. Typically, growing up as a girl, you generally were not given nintendo unless you had an older brother. This is changing of course, especially as the types of games are growing to become more social/diverse than say duke nukem/quake. If you want to get your lady to start playing games, perhaps suggest you play together. Let her borrow your system so she can catch up to you and get up to an acceptable ability, as part of the shittyness is that girls usually feel like they would just suck at videogames so there is no point in trying. This is working for my good friends girlfriend who never played games before and now is totally into Halo.
I like them, my ex boyfriends, both of them did too. I guess I'm odd? There just certain ones that I like playing and it depends on the theme. Generally, I like the ones where they're on a search for something and there's fighting involved, as long it isn't so gross/ gory and stuff.
its not that we hate them. but we just don't enjoy them for sustained periods of time like most guys do. btw--sometimes I don't like video games because sometimes my boyfriend forgets about me when he's playing. he gets very caught up in them, sometimes I feel neglected. but I don't hate them.
Lol this is so funny to me because a GUY broke up with ME for playing too many video games. I understand why though, because sometimes it can take up all of your attention making someone feel neglected. Personally, I love video games. I've grown up with two brothers, so I've been around them since I can remember. Luckily, I'm with someone who plays them with me! hehe.
I love video games, like the Wii. But I couldn't sit for hours upon hours palying them. I would get bored. I think guys have better hand eye coordination than girls, so they are better at video games. And partly I think it is just one of those antural guy/girl differences. LIke girls would ratehr be shopping than playng video games, Well most.
Actually, they are better drivers. You never wonder why insurance rates for guys are higher, especially from 16 to 25? Guys drive more aggressively & recklessly and get into more accidents. Actuary tables, don't lie, yo. Too much money rides on them. - 11 months ago
Im a girl and I dont. Its actually one of the ways I met my boyfriend. We are both avid gamers, and although he usually slaughters me, there are some games I beat him at ;) As a kid we couldn;t really afford video games but when I got into my teens I discovered my neighbours playstation, and was instantl;y hooked. My boyfreind grew up with video games though which is probably why he has an advantage over me. My favourite games are ridgeracer, FEAR(on xbox ps3 & pc :D ) halo, The sims(im totally obsessed, this game inspired me to want to do architecture) and combat games like dead or alive
On the whole, my boyfriebnd is the only one of my mates that can beat me in video games (except halo 3 which I suck at cause I don't know what all the pick-ups do cause I've only pl;ayed it like twice lol)
all these girls are right, I couldn't have said it any better. believe me when I say this, that video games are one of the best things in the world, but I do not spend all my time playing them, it makes you look like you have no life. many girls, in fact I think most girls like them, and or don't mind them, they just aren't as "attracted to them" as much as guys are. like some of these women said, theyd rather be with you doing something active, ya know?, I believe one of the reasons this is is because they don't want you being a fat short father who plays video games all day, while there out trying to earn a living and providing for if you have any, kids
girls, please tell me, if I'm wrong on any of that
so in conclusion... yes, they do like them, but be willing to do active things with her as well, video games are more for when its dark out and late, and you just want to cuddle with your girl
Not all girls hate video games. As a guy, I relate to a lot of girls on this though, because I think it's an example of being immature. I'm not saying girls should nag you about it; they should just leave if they don't like your lifestyle. I think girls nagging about video games is like girls nagging about smoking pot. grow up already.
I was reading all the answers and I think it's a generation of super nintendo/sega genesis thing that caught on with girls. This would be my next ?: What was the first video game system girls (in general) owned?
I say that just because I'm thinking boys had gotten atari's for christmas and as presents, girls weren't really into video games yet(got other stuff), then nintendo - same thing. Then I think more with sega genesis and super nintendo, girls started to get more into video games, get 'em for presents as kids.
If any girls (or men) don't like video games, it is because video games require brain activity, patience, and perseverance: neither of which such video game hating people have.
Now that's interesting I would have expected a lot more women to hate video games, but it seems that they actually like hmm, well I guess that means when women come over to my house I don't have to hide the 360, they might actually want to play it. My friends girlfriend is crazy bad ass at video games she's beaten so many games its ridiculous.
