What are some people's favorite proverbs or sayings (like: "it takes one to know one; you are what you eat; two wrongs don't make a right," those types of sayings) when trying to advice a loved one or a friend?
Update: What was the snake/rat saying from the first survivor?

When the apple is ripe, it will fall I am so tired of seeing parents at the rink I skate at push their children into something they either don't want to do at all or just aren't ready for. If a kid wants to skate just for fun, don't make them compete if for no other reason than it costs money you don't need to spend and tends to make the child miserable.
And I don't think this one is a proverb but it was on a button I got at navy pier and thought it was great: those who dance are often thought fools by those who can't hear the music
"The early bird catches the most worm. ' Meaning when you are early for something, you always here and get everything.
"The sky is the limit. " It says it all the sky is the limit so do not aim for anything low because you ca achieve anything because the sky is the limit.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. " It speaks for itself.
I think my favorite is " no one is worth your tears and if they are, they would never make you cry in the first place"...wish I could believe that but I've always loved the saying
Oh Nashie... Lets see... Mine is " I know you are but what am I" and " I rubber and you are glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you" HA!!!! I love those darn Brady Kids!!
Show me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are! Most of the times this saying is so true! And also it takes one to know one - when people don't make an effort nothing really happens!
There are so many potential answers (this question rocks! ).
The first one that comes to mind - and it may not be a Phil Jackson original but he's the first I heard it from - is "Time heals all wounds, but time also wounds all heels. "
I think it's great - just a reminder to those who dismiss someone else's pain with one of those hackneyed platitudes (like "plenty of fish in the sea") that life itself brings challenges and they are real, emotional, and important.
Good answer-I googled american/english proverbs, and I had to ask the ?. My 2 fav: Don't crawl like a worm from a bird; Too many chiefs, and not enough indians, doesn't make a tribe. - 3 months ago
