Some people are more emotional than others, and believe it or not, some of these people intentionally start trouble between each other because they enjoy it. For them, it's like starring in their own dramatic TV series--every once in a while, there's a new episode.
In many cases, it's a repeating cycle. Sometimes, the people who are being abused become convinced that the abuser is someone powerful and worth looking-up-to (sort of like Stockholm Syndrome). They feel that they can't live without this person, even when times have been rough.
To answer your question, if I were her, I would move on. The guy has demonstrated that he can become murderously violent in the presence of children, which is a one-strike offense in my book. Enough to say goodbye forever.
