I don't know, but it sounds like he's either needy or at least a bit controlling, or maybe he just wanted to be informed because he was concerned/cared or even worried or perhaps wanted to be kept up to date on what you were doing as a way of showing him you care for him, depending on how it exactly went down, not everyone reacts to things exactly the same way, but generally you can guess someone's intent by how they do something and what they do.

Well, to be honest I haven't tried it yet since I almost never go out nowadays, but I wouldn't hesitate it I was to be in this situation. The way I do it, I would not be pushy or anything. After my last comment I would probably leave her for now, but try to bump in to her again later that evening, smile and ask for that lovely laugh again. And then maybe, we can start to have a conversation.
