Well I've been going out with my boyfriend for 4 months and we will hopefully be doing so for a good while longer... we are even considering getting married.... so yes I mean it =) we semi- know each other with his mom but I don't know his dad at all, I've only heard about him. Anyway his dad is getting hernia surgery on june 3rd and my boyfriend is really worried. He's worried that he won't be able to wake up after the anesthesia and tough, he is worried about his dads high blood pressure and all... My mom is a doctor so I've asked her to help out as much as she can and stuff and I've got that covered however I don't like it that that is all I can do. I want to be there for my boyfriend. Would it be really odd if I went? or at least sent flowers or something? I mean the flowers thing I'll definitely do but yeah... would it be odd? basically I'm open to any sort of advice on what I should do.
And by the way I have my final exams on the third so I don't know if I really can be there, depends on my exam times.

Speaking from personal experience-being there doesn't have to mean being there in person. just talking about it with him and asking him how he is feeling is the most important thing. my dad has terminal cancer and over the past few months this has put such a strain on my relationship with my boyfriend its near breaking point. be honest with him. if he behaves unreasonably let him no-my boyfriend let me push him away and hurt him and I'm paying the price for it now. you have to focus on your exams-I'm doing my masters finals at the min-but if he needs to unwind be there for him, tell him you care etc. I can't really give any advice other than that. I am now dealing with all my unresolved anger at the world and god issues by seeing a counselor and not taking them out on my bf. I wish you, him and his father the best of luck. Oh and it wouldn't be odd if you went-yes you're young but you're still his partner and that is what ur supposed to do if you can.

Question Asker Of course. I'll always be there for him in that sense. And I always am. Was just wondering if I should go if I can make time. Thank you so much for the advice=) I'm really sorry about your dad... I... really don't know what to say... *huuugg* And I wish you the best of luck... always smile and know that however bleak things may seem at any given moment it'll all be alright... Take care. - A month ago
