I'm a little confused about some of the remodeling on the site. What is this "Xper" thing? Is it a ranking for most answers? Best answers?

It's a little of both, with other ways to earn points. The idea seems to be that you get points for asking and answering questions, as well as for submitting stories/articles.

You get basic points for each of these actions and then additional points when your question is rated as being good, when your answers are agreed with, commented on, or selected as the best. So you'll get a lot of points for answering and asking questions, and then even more additional points if the other people find the information to be helpful. So someone with a lot of points will have many answers and positive ratings (i.e. someone who knows their stuff and has a good opinion to offer).

The Xper point system helps you identify the level of experience of each member you encounter. The more points you earn, the higher level you attain. There are 10 levels total.

You can earn points by asking a question, answering a question, writing a story and more. You also earn points when other members rate your question or post a comment to your answers.

Other criteria is used to calculate your total score but it basically comes down to your participation and how valuable your advice is to other members. For instance, a well thought out answer that helps another member will likely earn you more points because other members will make comments and you may get selected as "The Best Answer".

Members can have the most Xper points overall and/or in each category.

Yes, most of the time! I really wish I had a boyfriend/girlfriend!

A little, because I feel left out.
