A few years ago me and my father about died in a car accident, it was in the middle of the winter and the roads were extremely icy. He lost all control of the car and it spun out sideways in the road and there were cars coming for our car from both directions. The closer car was on my side. I looked into the headlights and looked back over to my dad and said goodbye and saw the car on his side coming for us too. Some how the car turned and the cars passedour car but by a really close call.
Now every time I get behind the wheel of a vehicle and I look out the drivers window, I can still imagine those bright lights of the on-coming car. I have to take drivers training, but I find it rather hard to do when I'm so scared to get behind the wheel.
I think you should speak with the school counselor and your parents about it. Ideally you need to be able to remember the incident without reliving it on an emotional level. But the feeling of a traumatic experience can linger on for a long time. That's why I recommend speaking with the school counselor.
A few visits to a psychologist specializing in behavior therapy (counter conditioning) or a psychologist specializing in PTSD may help. There are a lot of techniques used to help people overcome phobias (spiders, snakes, bridges, etc.) and one of these will probably work for you.
Would you visit her if she were unable to visit you, and would you take her to places she can't drive to because of fear or anxiety about driving?
