I can't imagine what life would have been like, had those writers of encyclopedia's hadn't had time and were cutting corners. What do you think? Big fan of abbreviations? Or will you go the extra mile and spell it all out, granted that written communication is not the best way of getting your ideas across?

I pretty much never use abbreviations unless I'm joking around with friends (i.e taking the mick out of the people who do use them =P)

I only really use; brb, cba, ttm

But, really, I find that wen you dnt spell prprly you sound stpd.

I also think that it's becoming fashionable to speak properly again. because now most of my school don't bother talking in abbreviations!

Just as the oldies got used to it. we're bringing back the spelling!

I physically can't abbreviate. It hurts me to read and write in abbreviation. It's pure laziness if you ask me. What's the point?

Question Asker I don't think my hang up is at your level, but if it is over done, I can't stand it :) including the over use of punctuations.. - 5 months ago

I prefer to write out the full word. I find the texting-based abbreviated language style a little disturbing. As V says, "Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth." There is tremendous power in the spoken and written word, likely being the foundation of human culture since the on-going transmission of knowledge from one generation to the next permits the continuation and expansion of cultural knowledge.

Images and words form our thoughts. The steady erosion of a language may well be an indicator of the steady erosion of the thinking process itself.

Good ?, if the ? is a short or funny ?, then I don't pay much attention. But if the question is long and requires some thought; then I like to see time and effort put into the question, if I'm putting the same time and effort into my answers. I guess I'll use the term "meet me half way." If your using 'em, I'll use 'em. But if not, I'll take you much more seriously.

I generally don't use abbreviations except for the few old common ones like BRB.

I think it is easier to just type out what I want to say since if I happen to be talking to someone you doesn't know the abbreviation I'd have to spell it out anyway. I had a friend send me a message telling me she was now officially a sahm. I was like sahm? Trying to figure out what she meant, it didn't help that she put it in all lower case letters so I thought she was trying to spell a word and messed up. Apparently it was "Stay At Home Mom." I don't think I would have ever guess that in a hundred years.

I'll always spell it out... Abbreviations seem immature or lazy in a lot of cases. One exception is text messaging on a phone without a keyboard; it would take much too long to type out grammatically correct sentences by cycling through the letters!

Also, I'd say that written communication is my favorite way of conveying information. It gives me more time to think about what I want to say, and to structure it in a way that is easy to understand.

Question Asker I certainly agree with written communication allowing you more time, but considering all the non-verbal signs you can send across even during a phone conversation, it is not my most favorite. - 5 months ago
Stanley I agree in regard to it seeming to be immature or lazy. In addition, one's grammar is an indication of one's education, intelligence, and background. - 5 months ago

Yes, I've been in love.

No, I've never been in love.

I'm scared to love someone.

LOVE is an over-used word that doesn't have meaning.
