What makes you shy or aggressive in pursuing women?

It was really tough when I first met my girlfriend because we are both really shy! She actually pursued me for a year, she said, but I had no idea because I guess that she was so shy that her tactics were not noticeable to me. Also, after I found out, I was thrilled, but I was so shy that I did not pursue her at all or try to get with her. Finally, after lots of advice, I finally got the guts to talk to her now and then and then finally ask her out! The tough part about it for me was that I had to become a bit more aggressive in order to finally let her know that I really did like her and wanted to be with her, because I really do not pursue women at all. I usually let them come to me if they like me, and if I like them in return I just go with the flow, but that was not the case with her. I had to pursue her in return, which is totally against my instincts. At any rate, I guess that's it.

I like wheatish's answer. I am the same way, but I realize that the main reason that most shy people get nervous is because of confidence issues (self-image/esteem, etc.). With that in mind, I have been improving by building my confidence by reading, positive self-talk, and being around positive, encouraging people. In my position, it takes A LOT of practice, but I get back up when I am pushed down.

As a shy guy I can tell you that the main reason I am shy is that I'm not comfortable around a girl I like. I feel like if I say or do one thing wrong then I've blown my chance so I tend to be much more hesitant in my pursuit.

Also, while I can carry on a conversation fairly well with random people I clam up when I'm around a girl I like, its not something I purposely do its just that my mind kinda goes blank, all I can think about is what does she l think of me?
