Why won't his parents treat me to the same things?

I've been dating my boyfriend for 5 months. We see each other every day. My parents love him and if he is ever over, they invite him to have dinner with us or go out to dinner with us. They have bought him clothes for special occasions when he didn't have enough to pay for it, they have bought special snacks for him at the house, they have invited him to family gatherings, they talk to him like they've known him for years. My dad is even teaching him how to be more handy around the house & with cars. Seems great right?

Now come his parents. They are nice and seem to like me, but have NEVER invited me out, NEVER asked me over for dinner, NEVER bought me or treated me to anything, and NEVER seem grateful when my family or I do something for my boyfriend (example: buy him new shoes because he can't afford them due to school).

I am starting to feel like my boyfriend is taking all of this for granted. I get so made sometimes when he just comes over and eats. I love him very much, and he is very good to me, and always treats me great. I am not looking for him or his parents to buy me things, but I would like to be invited over for dinner or something! I feels completely one sided.

What should I do? Any suggestions?

Talk to your boyfriend about this! Make your feelings and concerns known and get his feedback. His parents may just not be the type to do all the things your parents do, every family is different. But at the very least I hope HE thanks you and your parents for everything you/they do for him.

Question Asker Thank you for your advice. I actually spoke to him tonight and told him how I feel. I know every family is different, I just thought the one thing they all have in common is to be inviting, but I guess not. It'll take some getting used to, but I'll eventually get used to it. Thanks again. =] - 5 months ago
