It's been about a month since my ex and I have broken up. At the time we were super stressed from school and a very close family member passed away the week before we broke up. Up until we broke up he told me he loved me.

Then he tells me that his feelings have changed and he feels like he doesn't know what he wants and he needed time to figure it all out. I was sad but I took it well. He on the other hand didn't. He was crying most of the night. The next day he was texting my friends like crazy asking if I was ok. The day after that we saw each other in class and he ran out crying.

It's been a few weeks since then and we still talk. He still brings up little things we used to do in our relationship, like little inside jokes. He even told my friend the other day that he is jealous I'm talking to other boys and he feels he made some bad decisions and he needs to reevaluate them.

The problem is he's been avoiding me for the most part. I texted him the other day and he says he was trying to give me space since he figured I was stressed out from finals and he invited me out to eat with him.

Is it possible he wants me back and if he does how should I go about it?

Its simple. If you want him back. Think on it. & make your decision.
He wants you back, at least that's what I think.
Maybe it took him not being with you to understand that he doesn't want to be with out you.
He could have been stressed out to a point where he felt like he needed to be alone.
You know how they say "You can't be happy with someone until your happy alone.
Just make sure that's what you want. Also make sure he wants you back due more than to regret. Good Luck

Sincerely,
A Loving Black Man

You need to tell him either this is going to happen or that is going to happen and if he takes the break up let him go and get you a new man that cares.
