My boyfriend and his old friend had an argument before we started dating and she called him out of nowhere saying she had a dream about him, and have been growing closer ever since. They had a short phone relationship prior to the argument. His "friend" is a childhood friend and he now says that he might have feelings for her and is confused. Their families remain close, and have always expected them to get married, which is part of the reason why I think he may feel as though there is a need for him to fullfill his family's wishes. I am lost as to what I should do

If he chose her over you, could you deal with that? Or would you sacrifice big parts of your identity so as to not risk rejection?

You'll know what to do. But, like all of us, it's easier if you're being told.

So she had a dream. We all do. That doesn't erase his responsibility to tell her that things have changed and he has a girlfriend now. But whether he's listening to her or if he's more concerned about what the parents want, it's all the same. He's doing very little to show that he is very serious about the two of you. I'm usually one to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I think this is a bad sign. He hasn't figured out what devotion is, or it wouldn't have gone as far as its has. Even if you make it past this situation, what's to say he won't meet someone later on and get all confused again? I know that's not a rosy outlook, but maybe it's good to have discovered this about him before you get more deeply involved. And if his old friend knows he has a girlfriend and she's pursuing him anyway, then they deserve each other.

Sorry this is coming down, but he is not ready for a commitment to you. He basically is letting
you know this by telling you he is confused. I would talk to him and tell him that he broke your
heart, because you felt that your relationship was stronger than this. At the same time, I
would also let him know that you are ready for a mature relationship with honesty and devotion,
and tell him to have a good life, then move on. Good Luck!
