I think that's a pretty closed-minded attitude. If you had ever known or been friends with a gay person, I don't think you would think that way.
One of my closest friends is gay and he's very well-balanced, confident and intelligent. I also know several other gay people, most of whom have great personalities and no mental problems.
If you were an insecure person, why on earth would you "choose" to be gay?! Gay people are constantly judged and discriminated against. If you ask me, insecurity would be a good reason to hide your homosexuality in an often unforgiving world.
However, it's not a choice, a mental state or a disease. You should learn to accept people's sexual preference the same way you accept the color of their skin, eyes, hair or any other characteristic they were born with.
