Sometimes, if you get cramps.

Before-I usually get a few cramps and stomach aches.
During-Several cramps, very few stomach aches.
After-Nothing, just glad it's over for the month.

Some girls get a lot of cramps. When I was around 16 or 17 I'd get cramps so badly that I'd end up almost fainting. Now at 21, I don't get any, so for me it's more an inconvenience.. I mean really, who LIKES bleeding from their crotch? I certainly don't...

but yeah, it depends on the woman. Can be painful, can also be pretty easy.

I don't realize it at the time, but apparently I do have PMS, meaning I'm a total biotch and overreact about little stupid things. I usually get minor cramps for about a week long before my period and a few days of HORRIBLE cramping during my period. I HAVE puked before because the pain was so severe. I restrict myself from activities and events all because of this curse we have, I do not think it's a blessing (babies or not)!

This is kinda nasty, so I'm sorry, but you asked.

Symptoms: I used to throw up every half hour for the first 12 hours or so (yes, something like 24 times). By the end it was just heaving and spit because there was no food or even stomach acid to vomit up. Now I don't eat and medicate myself on pain killers when I start and I will probably only puke once or twice if I'm lucky. I also get a bit bloated - my flat stomach stops being quite as hard.

How I behave/feel: I'm very particular about where I want to go my first day (or rather not go) because I don't want to end up outside or in a public toilet when I start feeling sick. Really, the first day, I will only go out if its school or work or an emergency. After the first day, I'm just tried (puking your guts out wears you out and I can't sleep long hours because I have to wake up and change tampons - I really cannot stand pads). That said, I don't really think I'm very bitchy or emotional, just tired and worn out and consequently maybe less spunky and more tied to home than normal. By the time my period is ending, I'm sleeping lots, my tummy is back to its normal flatness and I feel good. Really though, every girl and the pain/lack of pain she experiences is different.

Random opinions: I think its probably important to note that there are probably a lot of women who don't want to discuss with a guy (or anyone) how bad they feel (or don't even want to say they have their period at the moment), and yet others who will use it to justify behavior that is unacceptable under any circumstances. So I think general kindness/understanding and a bit of flexibility to plans at that particular time of the month are very appropriate. However, while she might not be feeling 100% and deserves a conscious effort to be a bit more flexible and understanding on your part, I don't think guys deserve to be subjected to bad behavior, emotional meltdowns, unwarranted bitchiness etc. It is no more acceptable to use anything period related as an excuse for behaving inappropriately than it is to blame it on a headache.

I really like that you asked this question. A lot of guys are kinda phobic about this kind of thing (or think they are all-knowing without knowing anything) and I think a little bit of understanding can go a long way to improving your understanding of and relations with the various females in your life. Good for you. ;)

annwyl-cariad Just so you know, it may be that you "cannot stand" pads (I dislike them too) but it is not healthy to wear tampons overnight. It sharply increases your risk of toxic shock syndrome, especially if you end up sleeping through the night accidentally. Besides, while you're asleep, the pad wouldn't be that uncomfortable anyway. You may be aware of the risk, and if you are, that's your choice, but I just wanted to be sure you and other readers knew. - 7 months ago
Answerer Thank you. Yes, I know about toxic shock syndrome (how could anyone who is literate and uses tampons not know? There are warnings all over them! ). I already said I don't sleep through the night and since you seem to be so interested in my decisions I've had yeast infections twice from the non-breathability/over-insulation caused by pads - 7 months ago
annwyl-cariad Okay, I'm sorry, it seems I've touched a nerve. Not everyone reads warning labels, and I'm not implying you're stupid. Definitely didn't mean to offend. - 7 months ago
good-looking-geek Do you still throw up every month? If you do, I'm sorry to hear that. Also do you know if throwing up is common? - 7 months ago
Answerer Annwyl, sorry for snapping at you.

mr. anonymous question asker, not every month, maybe 1/2. My sis is the same. apparently my friend's female dog even throws up for this reason! I don't think it is super common, but my gyno wasn't the least bit surprised when I told her, so I doubt it is particularly uncommon either.

They can be quite painful, yes. Usually mine passes without incident. I don't get PMS (thank God) so my symptoms before my period are minimal. Some girls get really cranky and irritable, and have a tenderness in their breasts. I can't really describe the feeling of beforehand, cause I don't get these symptoms, other than I just know that I'm about to start my period. Some sort of hormonal difference detectable on a subconscious level, I'd guess.

During it, it's common to have some minor abdominal cramps and occasionally headaches. Occasionally I'll get absolutely crippling abdominal cramps, to the point that I can't even move for hours. Once they were even so bad that I took about 3 times the normal dose of ibuprofen, knowing it would knock me out for a few hours! One must wonder how that sort of thing didn't get weeded out by evolution back in the days when a few hours of crippling cramps would get a girl eaten by a leopard! And there's also bloating, which is just irritating because sometimes I have to wear sweatpants instead of jeans, and mood swings.

After it's over, it's just over. No particular feelings or symptoms there, we're just back to normal and starting the whole cycle over again.

There are variations to how a girl feels when she has her period. Some girls go through extreme pain even to the point that they throw up. There is also cramping in the lower back and stomach. We feel bloated and very irritable. Emotions also take a high during this time. Before the period, appetite may change and breasts become swollen and tender. During the period its the same thing, but with the actual period involved. After the period ends, other than minimal spotting, its just like any other normal day.

Ha. This is a good question. Periods are not so much painful but they can come along with lower back pain and abdominal pain. It is not life threatening pain I usually take some aspirin if it hurts that bad. As far as before a period women get emotional, cranky, and just don't want to be messed with. Although some women don't have any symptoms. During the "cycle" and a little after there tends to be awkwardness, nothing crazy though. I think that is basically it.

Well finally somebody asks that question! Yes its painful - its like your stomach is trying to come out of your stomach - does that make sense? Well for one every each girl is different so chances are she has different side affects from the period - me I have stomaches - some days where I can't even get up and do something and I also get headaches but then there are other girls well they have one of the most biggest stomaches they feel like banging their head against the wall and passing out for the time being because that's how painful it can get! Before a girl gets her period - her breasts feel like rock, she can't even touch them cause it hurts and the breasts feel heavy, we crave constantly for something sweet and aphrodisiac and we want lots of sex well at least I do! After we feel normal go back to the way we were! We get bloated and feel like we rather be in the bed during that whole day but like I said every girl has a different side effect so be careful some may get cranky as hell and some may just stay sweet and nothing is wrong!

One of my best friends is a girl and gets PMS. She seems to save anger just for me though! haha ... All my other friends she has no problem with, but she can not stand me when she has PMS. Its actually kind of funny. I'm not her boyfriend so I don't have to take the punishment though haha.
