When do I have to visit the OB/GYN? Is it necessary to go even if I haven't had intercourse?

I am 24 years old and I only had three sexual experiences without intercourse (I was only once fingered and I have done oral sex).

Most doctors recommend your first visit after you begin your very first period. You should have a pap smear done yearly - they don't only check for STD's but cervical cancer. They perform breast exams as well.

Yes you need to go.

If you had had no sexual experiences then I would say it's up to you. Some OB/GYN's will tell you that if a girl has no sexual past, it would be good if she gets at least one check up but then after that she should be good till she starts having sex. The reason for that is some problems can be genetic and have nothing to do with sex.

But the problem with oral sex, is that it can pass diseases just like regular sex. Think about how people have cold sores. That's a sign of disease. Even if you don't see the sore, the disease can be passed. The mouth is just as good at passing an STD as the genitals are. That's why they make things like dental dams. To protect the giver and the receiver of oral sex. When you have a chance of having any STD (which you do because one oral sex experience is the same as one sexual experience in this manner), that's when you go to the OB/GYN. Not only for treatment if you need it but also because people who have STD's are higher risk for so many kinds of problems later in life.

Plus, if you are asking the question, it always means there is something in your mind that wants assurance everything is OK. So it's best just to go and feel better that everything is OK.

Its always best to get a referal from a friend so you know you have a good doctor. And tell them you haven't had sex. The reason for that is the equipment they use comes in sizes and they can use a smaller size on you so it's more comfortable for you.

It is good to get checked up regularly even if your not having sex because you never know you could have an infection and not even know it.

its probably best, I dunno, my mom made me start going when I started my period at 16, which I think is a bit early to be going to the ob/gyn, but I'm glad I have it set up now, just in case something happens

you're supposed to go for regular exams starting at age 21 or after you've lost your virginity, whichever comes first.

It is always a good idea to go and just get checked ot just in case. Once a year close to your birthday is good so you don't forget. Even if you have not had sex you would hate to any any surprises. Good luck :) :P :D XD
