There are very few teenaged girls getting pregnant in the 21st Century West, actually. The birthrate is going through the floor. There is a big negativity about teenage pregnacy - this is a feminist cause - but in many ways it doesn't make sense. Females are at their most fertile at varying points in their teenage years and pregnancy complications are least likely. But hey, population control, feminism and consumerism are obviously more important!

They're getting pregnant because they're lost their way morally. Too many teens no longer place value on religious views because of what they see on tv and in the movies, and read in magazines and books which glorifies and promotes sex as the thing to do unless you're some retard or screwball. Add to that the widespread use of birth control in it's many forms plus legalized abortion and you have a very acceptable viewpoint and mentality of having sex whenever it feels good, or you're into a relationship even if it's just the first day and it's the thing to do on a date if you like the other person.

Consequently, there's too many instances of forgotten to take the BC properly; a ripped condom, or not using anything on the passion of the moment , it's actually a complete disregard for God's laws and when people do that their lives starts to fall apart in one way or another. The result is unwanted children or children with one parent or when the mother is too young and too unable to take care of her own child properly. Once this attitude of sex is fun and healthy - we should all be having sex whenever we can; or having sex is the thing to do on a date; or when virginity looked down on; or when you're in love you should be definitely be having sex; - comes to an end they'll be more teenage girls getting pregnant and this is what Planned Parenthood likes because they make a ton of money by performing abortion.

I guess the simple answer is that too many teenage girls are having sex nowadays because they think that's expected of them. It's not uncommon nowadays for teenage girls to have sex with multiple partners.. some 10 or more before they finish high school. They've turned their beautiful young lifes into settling for being sluts and settling for second best husbands who have done the same thing because men DON'T get pregnant. Any wonder why most marriages end in divorce. They are so unprepared for the consequences because of the lack of good parenting, proper religious values, and adequate and non promoting sex education in schools.

Well I personally don’t know why (I’m not a teenage girl… so I can’t speak for anyone besides myself… otherwise I’d be 1 tall, hairy teenage chick! LOL), but I remember reading something a couple years back that they did a study on the history of the pregnant teens. 1 key thing that they found out from the screening was that the majority of the girls that were ending up pregnant were “C-average” grade-wise in school… & the guys that they were getting impregnated by tend to have an “A-average” in school. Or at least honor-roll. Not that I hold this opinion, but 1 of the things that they concluded was that they had a self-esteem issues… & that was the reason why that a # of these girls were getting pregnant. Something to think about though.

People are getting pregnant because they are being denied the information and materials they need to make different choices. The teenage pregnancy rate is appalling in this country partly because it is much higher than most other industrial countries. We know how to decrease teenage pregnancy
http://www. Msnbc. Msn. Com/id/23782717/
but there are people who want people to suffer for having sex and denying comprehensive sex education is an excellent way to keep the uninformed knocked up and miserable.

3% of people get married without having sex first. That means that Abstinence fails 97% of the time. Trying to pretend that abstinence is a viable solution to teenage pregnancy is beyond foolish, it is well into evil because we know that that people will have sex anyway.

Lack of comprehensive education would be my opinion. There was a study by researches of the University of Washington that looked into comparing abstinence only education with a comprehensive education plan and found that "Abstinence-only programs were not significantly associated with a risk reduction for teen pregnancy when compared with no sex education. " A comprehensive sex education however did show a significantly less likely chance of teen pregnancy. (www. Siecus. Org)

For starters, the concept of virginity does not make sense anymore. Wait until marriage, have sex a few time then stop completely yet still think your marriage is safe is absurd. We see hot beautiful people every day in all aspects of life and it just adds fuel to the flames of youth already a bundle of hormones. The Fear of God as a parent no longer works so when daddy tells his little princess not to have sex or else, the girl will dismiss dad in a heartbeat. Just telling kids "don't do it" no longer works either because the urge is so strong, kids will do it anyway. Try not eating for a week because somebody said so. The primal urge to breed is the same as hunger and sleep.

The lack of sex ed hurts. The reason being is because kids will learn about sex from the wrong sources and makes the mistakes. They also lack quality peers and adults to look up to and talk to on a personal and intellectual basis. There are just some things kids will not talk to parents about out of fear of the possible tension, sex tops the list.

I saw an article that explained that girls are fertile now beginning at ages 11 compared to hundreds of years ago when fertility was around their 20's. This means the primal urge kicks in at way too young an age. See where this is leading?

Add in the for mentioned social pressure of "you can't have a boyfriend if you don't put out" and you have a giant poopy soup bowl.

It is because of ignorance, as Jessica32 said, as well as in some cases due to contraception failures. Sometimes it's pressure from other guys that stop them from insisting that they use a condom. Another, and far worse reason is that some girls think that if they're pregnant, they will manage to keep there guy. It's sad that they believe that they can get love like that, and it's wrong that they want to trap a guy like that too. Sometimes a couple can be simply making out, thinking that that's all they are going to do, then when they go all the way, "Whoops! We forgot! Phooey! "

It's interesting what Jessica32 also said about people canceling sex ed. I live in South Africa. Something interesting is happening here at the moment. We've got a health minister that is the embarrassment of the country, yet she still won't change her blatant stupidity. Teenage pregnancy, as well as the HIV infection rate is sky-rocketing. She has promoted so many things that don't work, or are just plain dangerous. One of them is to go to your sangoma (like a witch doctor) and trust what they say. One example of what they say, which has caused a huge amount of damage, is to sleep with ten virgins to cure HIV. That's not the only one, just one of the most publicized.

Anyway, back to the topic. Education is highly important. The most important thing, though, is that it is the RIGHT education. In Uganda, there is a massive abstinence before marriage campaign. Teenage pregnancy is virtually unheard of there. In South Africa, we have a massive campaign calling for condomising, yet very little as to being responsible about what you do with them. Condoms are freely available at schools, train stations, everywhere. There's a little instructions on the package informing everyone how to use them, but nothing is said that will help them to use them at the right time. There's nothing about making responsible choices. It's like giving a match box and fuel to an arsonist wannabe (ie, like teenage boys with their hormones and now condoms) and saying, "Be careful where you use them! But have fun anyway. "

It's a sick joke. In Uganda, they teach what sex is as they should, but they also teach abstinence to the point of people thinking you're insane to do anything else. That makes no teenage pregnancy, and a DRASTICALLY falling HIV infection rate. In South Africa, we have teaching about sex, free condoms and teaching about how to use them properly with practical encouragement to use them frequently. That makes a terrible HIV infection rate, and drastically increasing pregnancy amongst teens. Kids as young as 12 ARE LOSING THEIR VIRGINITY! It's mass INSANITY!

Okay, I realize that that was a massive rant, but I think I feel better now. Thank you. It was fun. Whew!

dakadan Abstinence in Uganda makes sense. With a high percentage of the population already having HIV, scare tactics should really make a big impact. However, in the US where it isn't quite so bad and most people haven't had to deal with it they don't really think it will happen to them. - 3 months ago
Answerer It wasn't so much a scare tactic they used as a change in ethics. The people now believe that virginity should be saved exclusively for marriage because it's the right thing to do. They can't understand why someone would want it any other way. In SA, it's practically a case of a free for all orgy. The HIV infection rate or teen pregnancy rate with the new tactic (compared to the 'conservative' apartheid regime) is FAR worse. Face it, abstinence and responsibility before marriage can't be beat. - 3 months ago
dakadan I would agree with responsibility, but I would like to see your statistics that abstinence works. Of course it is the best way to keep from getting pregnant, but I don't really think it is realistic given the desire due to puberty hormones coursing through their blood. Even politicians here in the US are starting to recognize that abstinence isn't a realistic solution and they are usually the most conservative when it comes to sex (for others). - 2 months ago
Answerer I'm not sure where you can get them. It's probably available on the net, but I don't know a site that will give it to you. You can try searching for 'statistics sa' for South African stats, but I'm not sure where you can get for Uganda. One thing I do know, is that Uganda used to have amongst the worst stats in the world, and now it's the first country to reverse their HIV infection rate.
Teaching abstinence by itself is irresponsible - it needs to be proven that it is better too, and it is. - 2 months ago

So many teenage girls are pregnant these days because we weren't brought up with the same morals, like abstinence. Also I think young people just don't think about the consequences of their actions before doing whatever it is they want to do!

I think a lot of teenage girls are lacking in self esteem, many of them come from single parent families, many of them don't have a dad. I think the basic form of my answer is they are looking for love. They aren't getting it in the traditional sense and they think that they will get it from a baby. Some of them think the baby will force the father to commit to them and perhaps give them the family that they didn't have.

I also think though that in the heat of the moment, young girls might not really have the know how to stop and say "do you have protection" or if they do ask he might tell the girl he will withdraw in time. They might be embarrassed to ask or afraid to make the guy angry and perhaps he might leave.

I think lack of education of where babies come from isn't an excuse anymore. Or birth control for that matter. I think that a lot of girls are getting pregnant by their own choice. They think that having a baby is like it is on a soap opera where you still get to live your life just as it was but you have this adorable little baby that sleeps all the time and needs the occasional feeding. They don't realize at this young age the reality of dealing with a child for the rest of their lives. It's a shame that they can't enjoy their own childhood. Cause once it's gone you can never get it back!

Well for one thing we (our generation) has faced more intense social problems and has had to grow up a lot quicker then our parents and grandparents.
yes it would be smart to wait but in growing up in every other way in life probably makes it harder to stay "innocent" longer.

when you are in lower grades adults do not think that you are old enough to understand about sex and everything but by the time any authority figures say anything about it and why teens shouldn't do it, it is too late. Teens are going do what they want anyways but I think if at a younger age they knew what could happen they would think before they did anything but that's just me. "the Talk" they give at school doesn't say anything about safe sex, they just talk about DONT HAVE SEX. I would think if they are going to take the time out of class then they would want to cover everything.

I hope all this helps

Because conservative republicans like to get rid of sexual education in schools. So it's due to pure ignorance. You don't always see people in movies or porns whipping out condoms to use. And girls are stupid and gullible and let guys do it without one. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for girls that get pregnant. These days there are easily about 10 ways to prevent it or at least lessen the chances.

But the responsibility also falls on the parents. For sure. My mom and I have always been open and I'm pretty sure I know almost as much as Sue from Talk Sex.
