i am not a virgin, but I've never got the big deal, I mean it holds innocence? what's that about, to me its just physical, it holds no meaning, making love does, you have to love them but, virginity just I don't know, so can someone explain to me, why is it such a big deal?
At your age to some girls it is a big deal. They are giving them self totally & completely to the one that they love for the first time. When you get a bit older(top of your age range) it's not a big deal anymore. I would think that a girl in her mid 20's has had at least a few serious relationships. I wouldn't want a virgin, I would like someone with a bit of experience.
Retaining one's virginity unnecessarily is perpetuating the myth that women are "things" that need to be "kept pure" so that a man get the satisfaction of "deflowering" her.
Its a big deal in America because we were founded by purists, and run by a large amount of conservative christians.
It is a chauvinistic, archaic, primitive tradition whose proponents are, ironically, mostly women.
So I don't get it, either. And like you, don't subscribe to it.
I don't see the big deal either, most people I know that didn't wait for the right person hated that they lost it, and wanted to be a virgin. Then there's the people who lost it and just didn't know what the big difference is. When I lost mine I was happy because it was with the girl of my dreams, and where still dating, its amazing I was patient and my patients paid off.
I am a virgin and just like you don't see what the big deal about virginity is I don't see what the big deal about sex is. I respect everyone's decision and opinion and I like people to respect my decision. Sleeping with someone is a very big deal because it ties in with a a lot of emotions for most women and until I feel that a guy is ready to have that much of me emotionally I'm not going to hurt myself by doing something that I don't want to do. I'm not a religious fanatic or a introverted nerd (LOL) but I am just a young woman that has made a decision just as you have. Granted they are different choices but still choices.

My first ideal date could simply be out to dinner and then a movie or it could just be going over his place and watching a movie or doing something.
