I think this is an English thing, but I'm not sure what context/meaning your using the word Birth Control. A condom is a type of birth control; as is the cap, pill, coil, rhythm method (not advised) and celibacy. To answer the question I’m assuming you mean the birth control pill or capsule or Combined oral contraceptive pill. There are more different types of the pill than fingers on your hand; their are different oral tablets, injecting (shots) you can get once a month, or even a small bar they insert under the skin in your arm that will last 2 years. Assuming your American Planned Parenthood will help. If you’re any other nationality then just go to your doctor. The pill or Combined oral contraceptive pill, is the most common form of contraception and by far the most reliable. There have been millions of women taken this pill for 40 years so it proven safe. It can have some negative effects. My girl friend took the pill and loss her sex drive, the joking being it stopped her getting pregnant by stopping her having sex. But if that happens you can switch a different type. The main chance of failure of the Combined oral contraceptive pill is in human error. i.e. you forgetting to take one at the time needed.
Millions of women take the Combined oral contraceptive pill and have sex with men without getting pregnant. If they forget to take the pill on day, they can use a condom for safety’s sake.
You are very sensibly wanting to use a condom to protect you from STD. Well done for having a mature attitude toward this problem/risk. Condom are 90% effective, ie they can split or come off, especially if your having sex drunk. When your having sex with a condom you should really go for the bang bang hammer action, cause the condom will tire. When your having sex you need to (normally the fellas job but some are wankers and wont) put you hand down and check the base of your penis to see the condom is still there and maybe pull in down about every 2-3 minutes.
But your plan to use both the Combined oral contraceptive pill and condoms at the same time is the safest. Both to protect you from getting pregnant and from getting a STD.
