It really depends on her age. Each guy has a different opinion on the matter but for me I would say not more than two a year. As far as how few? It doesn't matter to me, I actually find inexperience in a woman sexy.

I really don't think there is a magic number either... I would say no more than 10 and no less than 2... If you are with a virgin or somebody who has only experienced one guy... There is generally a lot of teaching and bad habits to break... Once in a relationship you become accustomed to one persons likes and dislikes and that could be completely different to the next guy... I think as long as you know what your doing, clean, and not slutty you should have nothing to worry about...

I don't really have a magic number, but if you got 50 guys to your name, then, that's not good, no matter the age! :)
Granted I know couple of guys that probably pull in that number of girls in 6 months....talk about double standards... Now, what I actually take into account is the reasoning behind the girl having a sexual partner. For example, if the girl tells me she has a boyfriend, just to use him for sex, but she has only had 5 sexual partners, then I would be careful with this girl because I would see her as somebody that would go out at any time, and get any guy just to have sex.
If I meet another girl that tells me she has had 5 sexual partners, but 2 of those schemed her (as many guys do), and 3 of them were guys she really liked or loved, then I would consider this girl to be safe as she is most likely not going to go out and just grab any guy to have sex with....hope that makes sense.

I don't start a conversation totally for the sake of having one. That comes into play, but there's got to be something interesting to say, something valid to comment on, otherwise it's just ridiculous. The point being, if you ask about something you're really interested in, even if you don't make an associate, you may still find out something interesting, so it is time well spent.
How do they typically respond?
They respond pretty well, because I don't use pickup lines, I just ask about what's around me, around them, what sets them apart and what seems prominent about them, or about the environment we are in together.
