Okay so I have a gap in the middle of my teeth. The rest of my teeth are perfect. They aren't crooked, they aren't stained. They are perfectly aligned and there is nothing wrong with them. EXCEPT my middle tooth. It has a damn gap in it! Its not a huge one either. I mean some people say they didn't even notice it until I brought it up. I will eventually get it filled but for now. I hate it so much and I think its a turn off toward guys. I was just wondering though. What do guys think of gapped tooth?
If you act like it doesn't bother you, then it shouldn't bother him. If he's the kind of guy who it does bother, he probably won't go out in the first place, so it's safe to assume that anyone who does date you isn't bothered by it.
The only way to make it an issue is if you let it bother you and become one. If a guy goes out with you he's already thinks you're attractive and that by bringing it up he might think you're fishing for compliments, or have self-image issues.
Which isn't to say you can never mention it, hell, bring it up on the first date if you want. Just know that a guy is going to like to hear "Yeah they've been that way forever, it doesn't bother me much" than "I hate my teeth, I won't even smile with my mouth open. " This, IMO, is both because it may mean you've got larger self-esteem issues and for some reason, at least for me, I get bothered when girls I'm with are too hard on themselves.
I would be willing to bet that most guys wouldn't even notice it until you called attention to it. And even if they did, I'm sure most would not even care. The few that would be bothered about it? You don't need them, anyway!
My guess is the gap between your teeth is a bigger issue to _you_ than to anyone else.
Any guy who'd reject you because you're teeth weren't "perfect" is a jerk you shouldn't want in your life.
A few years ago, I had a mad crush on a girl with a gap between her two front teeth. She was adorable, and the gap was part of her appeal. It's funny how what we think of as "imperfections" can be such an important part of our look.
Lauren Hutton was a top model in the '70s, and had a gap between her teeth.
If you don't make a big deal about it, guys probably won't either. Like you say, people don't notice it until you mention something. So I wouldn't mention it at all. If you act like you don't know it's even there, guys won't know to look for it.
However, on a medical note, I had a similar problem with my right upper canine a few years ago, and my orthodontist told me that if I didn't have it fixed, it would only get worse and end up eventually migrating backwards, and the incisor and premolar on either side would close up in front of it. Yeah. Kind of a bad situation. I had braces for about a year and they fixed the problem completely. So, I'd definitely have a dentist or an orthodontist check it out to make sure that it's not going to cause problems. It'll probably be fine, but I'd have it checked out just in case.
