5 Songs To Help You Through The Break-Up Blues (Female Artist Edition)

The last time I spoke to my ex was April 30th before he walked out of my apartment. He never contacted me again. No message, no phone call, not even a ‘we are done’. Just…ghost. Since then, I’ve been trying to figure out what I did wrong. All I wanted that morning was to meet his friends. He tells me know, then demands I give him sex. I didn’t, we argue, I roll my eyes, he gets up, and he’s gone gone gone. Needless to say, as much as I don’t want him back, I feel lonely, and I want to cave and try contacting him again, even though I know we aren’t a match. And these love songs on the radio aren’t helping any.

So if you’re anyone going through a break up or missing that special someone, here’s a list of five songs by female artists to help you get your mind off your ex. Disclaimer: This is a list of songs I listen to so not every genre will be represented. And because this the female artist addition, there will be no male artists on this list, either.

1. “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor

This song is very VERY empowering. It’s upbeat and it’s clean lyrics positively reinforce that you ARE capable of more, you CAN do better, and you need to kick that filth out of your life. Save your love for someone who’s going to love you. And change your lock. Or get your key back. Just make sure you kick their ass OUT.

2. “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood

Although this isn’t my personal favorite because it was so overplayed when it first debuted, it’s still a good song to listen to, especially if your man was a no good cheater like mine. While I have no proof he had sex with other women, he had a dating profile that he logged in and out of every day, so to me, that’s cheating. I mean, if you knew you wouldn’t go to jail, it would feel great to destroy his precious truck and make him feel how you felt when he treated you like dirt. But alas, you will be arrested, so you’re better off channeling your inner “Carrie At The Prom” through Ms. Underwood.

3. “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child

5 Songs To Help You Through The Break-Up Blues (Female Artist Edition)

This song is a bit corny, but the lyrics are probably what you need in your life right now. I mean, seriously, people do dumb things when they’re depressed, and a failed relationship really isn’t any different. But one thing that everyone, especially girls, need to understand is that a man doesn’t make you who you are. You are who you are because of the things YOU’VE done and what YOU’VE accomplished. Rescue yourself. Take care of yourself. Continue doing you and everything else will fall into place.

4. “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera

One thing that I’m struggling with right now, and I’m sure others can relate, is appreciating what every relationship has taught you. I don’t feel strong right now, but I did learn some things from my ex. For instance, I am going to meet your family. I am going to meet your friends. I am going to go on dates with you. And I am GOING to find someone who treats me better. I won’t forget the feeling of not being wanted or loved, but I’ll be damned if I go through it again.

5. “Video” by India Arie

Okay, okay, I know, this song really isn’t about a relationship or a man. But it is about loving yourself for who you are. I personally don’t believe you have to love yourself to be loved by someone else, but I do think you have to love yourself to move on from a past relationship. You need to love yourself and see your own value. He dumped you because your boobs were small? Are you not fit enough? Lips to skinny? Eyebrows to thick? Not girlie enough? Big deal. You are who you are and someone out there will love you all the more for it.

Here's just 5 songs that might help you get through a bad moment or relationship. What are some songs you use to get over a relationship?
