I have one thought for you.. If you got on a chat and he left just after you sent a message.. He may not have been on at all..
When you sent the message the chat reloaded and relised he was off.. So it changed for him
It happens to me a lot on Facebook chat.. Its because it takes a second to load..
Also on Facebook chat it will say he's online if his cellphone has internet.. But the phone can't use Facebook chat..
So when he says "text" me he means "text" him.. Not chat or messanger
Ive told girls to text me when ever they want.. But as for messaging on a chat.. If I'm online I'm usually busy..

he probably meant you can text him whenever you need to, like if you need help...
wouldnt over do it tho... it would be annoying.
Some chats have a delay, where the person has already signed off and it takes a bit to register it. So it looks like they are online but they arent. Could totally have been the case.
I would chill for now. Let him message you, and don't bring anything up about what you have talked about unless he asks. What you want to do, is keep it equal. Ask how he's doing, what's going on, shoot the breeze. You want to keep it friendly and let him know that he is more than just a sounding board.
