My Very Own Star

One day, as sort of a joke, I decided to make an account on an online dating website. I was witty in my profile and looked good in my picture, but I was still surprised by the mass amount of emails I received in just a few days. Most of them were jerks wondering "hey, hottie/baby/sexy, want to hook up?" and old men, frankly, just being creepy. One guy did catch my attention, though. His name was James and, while he was a bit older than me, he was really funny and family oriented. After awhile I finally agreed to meet him in person. He picked me up late at night and I remember that his car smelled like oranges (I found this very funny for some reason) and we drove to the beach. As we walked along the beach, each with our shoes in our hands, we talked about our childhoods and our hopes for the future. Eventually, we got too tired to walk anymore and just sat down to look out on the ocean. The night was so clear and we could see thousands of stars reflected on the waves. He said to me, "I wish those stars would wash up on the beach as diamonds for me to give you." and I...well, I laughed and told him that was really cheesy, but thanks anyway. By then, it was nearly 3AM and I needed to get back. He drove me home, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and wished me well. The next week, I received a letter from him in the mail. When I opened it, the only thing inside was a small diamond (cubic zirconium, but I can pretend, right?) and a note that said "The first of many stars. -J". Romantically, we didn't work out, but we have been online friends ever since and I still have my star.
