Lessons In Masculinity From Brando...

From a recent Take I wrote, I discovered Marlon Brando still has the charm to grab almost any woman's attention. It's in the spirit that I want to illustrate how Marlon Brando, the actor, embodies the things that women are attracted to. (hint: besides looks.)

WILLING TO DO IT HIS WAY

Brando disdained the status quo that celebrated him. Despite making a serious of unbelievably poor life choices, he redefined acting forever when he decided he was going to act natural instead of super "movie like" and overly theatrical. If you watch a Streetcar Named Desire that he's the only one in the movie that acted like actors act now, which is to say believable.

ICONOCLAST OF PERFECTION

The man with the balls to say Elizabeth Taylor's ass was too small, Brando had a think for "darker women" even though he was seen as a perfect representation of the white American male. He found Native/indigeneous people uncorrupted and more human than what European America had become. Whether this was warranted--he believed in something and he stood for it.

HE WAS WAY COOLER THAN ANY LABEL THAT COULD EVER THREATEN HIM

He is "mentored" James Dean and by that I obviously mean banged repeatedly and this did not challenge his sex appeal to women and sense of coolness to straight men. He did what so many honestly believe is impossible--he was larger than the sum of any majority's collective opinion. Cool was defined by whatever Brando did instead of him doing whatever it took to be cool that so many of his peers did.

TOWARDS THE END HE TRULY DID NOT GIVE A S$%^

He showed up to work on the Godfather and decided to put orange peels in his mouth. No one ever understood what the hell he was saying. He'd blow a multi million dollar sci fi film just because he enjoyed making Val Kilmer laugh so hard he pissed his pants in the middle of a scene. This is the attitude of a man who has truly beaten "the game" and makes the choices of the women he sleeps with rather than the much more frequent other way around.

Marlon Brando...a legend in defining cool as f%#
