If his behaviour is based on anger on tenancies towards S&M, I would be concerned. I won't be popular for saying this, but I believe that a desire towards aggressive sexual behaviour (whether giving or receiving) is a sign of of something being wrong. By that I mean he could be projecting an unmet inner desire or deep frustration. But let's leave the psycho analysing for another place. All I know is that men often have control issues, and sexual dominance can be a way to vent that.
Talk to him be very firm and tell him thats the last time you ever put your hands on my throat in anyway and I mean anyway in rough sex or just kissing or horse playing around he will then get the point. If he does it again walk and move on
Some people like light choking because they think it's kinky. It's not much to worry about unless he actually hurts you. However, if it still makes you uncomfortable or worried, just tell him that it doesn't really do anything for you and that you wish he'd stop, because it's a little scary.
