Why do people think it's such a big deal to be dating someone 3 years older? Is it wrong?

Maturity is a big factor of difference in age. If you are about the same maturity, and that maturity is ready for sex, then it is not a big difference. Since jurisdictions cannot put judgments of maturity into law, they go by age. In Canada the age of consent is 16, but there is also what is called a close-in-age exemption: sex with minors aged 14–15 is permitted if the partner is less than five years older, and sex with minors aged 12–13 is permitted if the partner is less than two years older. That is not to say one should at those ages, just that it is not prosecutable as an age of consent issue.0
