What does it mean a guy says you exceeded his expectations?

So I went on a date with a guy (my first first date in a while) and we had only met on social media before hand so only knew each other by pictures. All in all the date went perfect but the only thing that threw me off was that he said I had exceeded his expectations... does that mean he wasn't that interested in me previously? Or he didn't find me attractive in the pictures and seeing me in person changed his mind?
