Is there a point in dating if we have practically nothing in common?

We just have one thing in common, and that's our sport which is how we met. But other than that we have a big fat zero in common. He comes from a different background to me, has grown up a different way, our intelligence levels are vastly different, and he's a bit older too. If we didn't have that one thing in common we'd literally have nothing to talk about.

Yet the sexual tension is ramped up to the max, and we like each other so much everyone thinks we should just get it over and done with and be together.

Is there any point of a relationship if we are so different?
