Why does he call me Miss?

I am living in London and seeing an English man. He only calls me Miss when we are in public, such like...You alright Miss? And when there are only 2 of us, he calls me babe. sometimes when he texts... also use like.. hey you... we are started seeing each other a couple months ago... I am not very sure why he is doing this...

Because he's probably trying to be more polite. Calling people "babe" in public brings up images of some guy in a leather jacket and an obnoxious grin/smirk thing.
